Be One in a Million this American Heart Month…

February is American Heart Month, and unfortunately, most of us know someone who has had heart disease or stroke. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States; one in every three deaths is from heart disease and stroke, equal to 2,200 deaths per day. These conditions are also leading causes of disability preventing people from working and enjoying family activities. Cardiovascular disease is also very expensive—together heart disease and stroke hospitalizations in 2010 cost the nation more than $444 billion in health care expenses and lost productivity. However, we can fight back against heart disease and stroke. CDC and other parts of the US government have launched Million Hearts™, to prevent the nation’s leading killers and empowering everyone to make heart-healthy choices.

Heart disease and stroke affects all of our lives, but we can all play a role in ending it. Prevention starts with everyone. Protect yourself and your loved ones from heart disease and stroke by understanding the risks and taking these steps.

  • Get up and get active by being physically active for at least 30 minutes on most days of the week.
  • Know your ABCS:
    • Ask your doctor if you should take an Aspirin every day.
    • Find out if you have high Blood pressure or Cholesterol, and if you do, get effective treatment.
    • If you Smoke, get help to quit.
  • Make your calories count by eating a heart-healthy diet high in fresh fruits and vegetables and low in sodium and trans fat.
  • Take control of your heart health by following your doctor’s prescription instructions.
  • Support “Hoops for Hearts” which Delaney is participating in and would love donations for- give her a call.

Just found out that Kelsie is also doing “Jump for Heart” She is taking donations too! Kameron gave $5.00. We should take the the path of children and give more to others! Give them a call, they will love to hear from you, no amount is too small.

Lent Tip…

FAST from your normal routine — walk or drive home a different way, buy groceries at a different market, go to mass at a different parish, etc.

PRAY that God puts new people in your path so that you might share the good news with them.

GIVE time to meeting new people today and opening up your social circle.

Happy Leap Year…

Why do we need Leap Years?

Leap Years are needed to keep our calendar in alignment with the Earth’s revolutions around the sun. It takes the Earth approximately 65.242199 days (a tropical year) to circle once around the Sun. But.. the Gregorian calendar has only 365 days in a year, so if we didn’t add a day on February 29 nearly every 4 years, we would lose almost six hours off our calendar every year.

Lent Tip…

FAST from over-commitment — say “no” in order to simplify your life.

PRAY for help in simplifying and clarifying your thinking about a problem.

GIVE away something that adds clutter to your life so that you can live more simply.

Keep Kristy in your prayers…

Kristy’s grandfather passed away Thursday, February 23, 2012.

They will be coming to New York Monday, not sure if they will be in the city or in Clyde.

Lent Tip…

FAST from discriminatory behavior today towards other people (no matter where they’re from, who they are, what religion they belong to, political affiliation, or the way they look.)

PRAY for the inner strength that comes from knowing who you are and the conviction to pursue your goals no matter what others think.

GIVE at least 15 minutes to thinking about a long-term goal and a definitive step you can take toward it this week.

What’s up…

In the final scheduled game between Kansas and Missouri, it was only fitting the two bitter adversaries would need five extra minutes to decide it.

Robinson’s three-point play in the waning moments of regulation kept their 105-year-old rivalry alive, and Taylor’s foul shots with 8.3 seconds remaining gave the fourth-ranked Jayhawks a dramatic 87-86 victory over the No. 3 Tigers on Saturday. GREAT GAME!!! ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK!

Boys basketball sectionals began. Clyde Savannah won their first game to Kendall (67-57) but lost their second game to Honeoye (65-68). Kameron had a great season. Nana said Kam did great in the game.

The chronic nature of drug addiction means that relapsing to drug abuse is not only possible, but likely. Relapse rates for drug addiction are similar to those for other well-characterized chronic medical illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma, which also have both physiological and behavioral components. Treatment of chronic diseases involves changing deeply imbedded behaviors, and relapse does not mean treatment failure. For the addicted patient, lapses back to drug abuse indicate that treatment needs to be reinstated or adjusted, or that alternate treatment is needed.

This is a tough road for Darian and Kris so prayers are needed now as well as encouragement and support.

Today I talked to Kelsie, a couple of weeks ago I told her I was mailing her a music CD. I got busy and have not done it (bad Lala) and today she asked me, “How’s that CD coming along?” Mind like a trap. I will have it done tonight and in the mail Monday. Lesson: Don’t say it unless you plan to do it. Package ready to mail tomorrow morning- leave it to the little ones to keep us honest!

Kelly, Rob and Nick took Katie to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls for her birthday. Hope all had a great trip!

Look at the web page- there is a new link to Kevin & Kristie’s wedding information.

Beth did a great job on the web design and it has all the information on the wedding and the receptions. Beth did a fantastic job- Thanks so much Beth for helping to keep us all informed.

Lent tip…

FAST from overthinking decisions.

PRAY to be more confident in your abilities and more active in your faith.

GIVE a call to a parish or community ministry today to schedule time to volunteer in a parish or community ministry this week.
