10/31/2006: "One degree...a big difference"

At 211 degrees, water is hot.
At 212 degrees, it boils.
And with boiling water, comes steam.
And with steam, you can power a train.
One degree.

Applying one extra degree of temperature to water means the difference between something that is simply very hot and something that generates enough force to power a machine - a beautifully uncomplicated metaphor that ideally should feed our every endeavor - consistently pushing us to make the extra effort in every task, action and effort we undertake.

You have no idea how appropriate this was for today. It was one of those that kicked me in the rump! I had a hard day at school (one of the worst!)... This reminded me to keep my eyes on the prize. We had a test with 48 pages of typed notes and thought i had it in the bag... well she did the test with four pages multiple choice/matching and six pages of essay questions... (multiple questions in every question... one had up to six seperate responses... it was a killer and CAD... well anyone wanting to make money i need help badly! I also have one week to render 4 drawings and do 2 sample boards. I am stressed beyond comprehension and need that one degree right about now. Poor C took me to dinner and watched me break down and cry all through dinner. Please pray for me... i have five and a half weeks of "hard" to get through and then... its cake! (PS. for all you that have degrees i am in awe.. esp the engineers.) Yesterday i was on cloud nine because i got a 100 on my Building Codes test and today i was reminded how "inadequate" i am! I guess its one day at a time!
