05/29/2008: "The Brickoven"

"Mr. DiSanto owns another building, the old Stoetzel's bakery, and has restored the huge brick oven in the back room, hoping to turn the place into a restaurant. The upper two floors (which would make even Brooklyn brownstone dwellers envious) may someday become a bed and breakfast. Right now, Clyde lacks even a motel."

The above article was found from an interview dad did several years ago...he is now making his dream come true. I laugh because it's "fever" seems to be contagious.

I talk to mom and she talks about tile and chairs and trips she and dad make to the city to find everything they will need.
I talked to Kim and she talks about all the decorating she and mom are doing.
I talk with Erin and she is busy designing a logo.
I talk to Kay and she talks about T- charts and analyzing systems (it's from her Xerox black belt knowledge).

It is fun to watch everyone pull together their vast resources and talents to help Poppy or Pops (as Delaney would say) make his dream come true.

Edited: This is not to make light of the many hours the "men" have put in with the floors and the bar! If I recall even Kameron nailed on the floor.

I feel the love...I think if they serve Nana's pasta sauce- oh my God and throw in choclate chip cookies-this might put Uncle Joe's out of business because instead of going there when Kevin comes home- we'll all be at the Brickoven!

By the way, once it is off and running, this might make a cool story and spin for news or paper for publicity... a family that came together with all their talents to make it happen. It's not just an owner with big dreams and a big heart, but an entire family with a lot of love to share toward it's success.

It has been a very cool process and I love that everyone is involved and brings their different talents to the table. As a family restaurant it is only appropriate that all the love of our family is going into this one. I have enjoyed hearing about the progress and being a part of whatever I can. Once we nail the logo, I would be happy to assist with menus, coupons, gift certificates, mailers, and anything else with a printing/design need. I'm sure that Beth would help too, once she gets settled. I have some shaped pancake molds I picked up for Poppy too, if he wants to use them. I think it will be a cute touch to people who visit with kids, and is one of those small things taht people remember... I have a heart, star and a truck!

It is at a point where it is fun. Kim and I are having a blast trying to decide tile, rugs, decor, pictures. It is fun to go down and talk to Rudy and Gloria Switz who are doing the building, Steve Tricarico, who is doing the flooring, Mark and Dick Deveto who will be painting. We even has a ball with the furnace and air conditioning guys, and we don't even know them! I think everyone in town is excited about getting a restaurant back in town. My brother Jim wants to come out to the opening. I hope he does. Mary DeSanto, an 87 year old friend of mine told me she prays every day for Ken that this will be successful, and I am sure she does. We have had a lot of fun, wish everyone was here to join in and hope you all get home after we open so we can go for breakfast or lunch. Erin is doing a greatjob with the signs. Kris got us started and Erin ran with it. Thanks you creative ladies. Love you all and am so thankful that we have such a creative family. Mom and Dad
