07/24/2008: "Proud Owners..."

homeowners (137k image)

Erin & David are the proud owners of a new house- welcome to endless upkeep, no money and finally having a place to call home that is ALL yours (and the banks)! Keep us updated on the progress. When Linda & I got 7320 NW Shelter- I took pictures as is and then every project I took updates and put all the bills and pictures in a notebook so we can see the difference and know the improvement dollars. Nice to see the changes. Enjoy the journey...

Remember, you have lots of years to complete your house. Use your heads and don't bite off more that you can chew, financially. It will all happen, and if it was all done at once you would get bored, so enjoy each thing. I did like karen's idea of keeping track of your progress. I wish we would have, you kids would have had a real good laugh at what we moved into. However, we did only pay $6000.00. Isn't that a hoot? Erin payed that for the front door!. Have fun. Nana

Congratulations and welcome to the world of home ownership (also known as the Money Pit). You will quickly find that if you aren't fixing it- then you want to change it! Remember it is a long process, but I love Karen's idea of tracking it so you can see the progress- wish I would have done a better job of that! ENJOY making it YOUR Home!

We went to the house and started to work already. David ran out to Lowes and to get us some food, and in that time I scrapped the entire guest bathroom ceiling... what a mess! BUT it was so easy. Thank goodness the house is already a mess and everything needs to be redone and nothing to be ruined. We also started scraping the master bedroom and got about half done. Lowes come to measure teh house for carpets and hardwoods on Tuesday when we get back... we're probably not doing the whole house yet, but we are certainly doing the carpeting and the living room in hardwoods right away. It takes about 2 weeks from that time for them to get the carpet and install, so we should have enough time to get the rooms we need to scrapped and painted before the new carpet arrives. Our realtor and mortgage guy put in and got us a $200 Lowes gift card, so that will certainly come in handy for all our projects.
