11/11/2008: "Veteran's Day"

"Thank you for protecting our country James Carroll"

Today is Veterans Day. When you think of – or thank – veterans of the current Middle East war, think of this: U.S. soldiers are fighting in Iraq today in part because of an event that ended on this date 90 years ago: World War I.
On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, a defeated Germany signed the armistice ending four years of the bloodiest war in human history. In America, we honor all veterans on this solemn day, and rightly so, because despite the convulsive changes occasioned by war across the decades and centuries, there is one constant: the willingness of patriots in every generation to answer their country's call to arms.
Let's follow Delaney's lead and Thank a veteran today!

My little war heroe - I love you little lady and I am smiling at you - I work with nothing but vets (I am the token civilian) I thanked most (a couple I wanted to shoot! Just Kidding)

It is a time to be thankful for our freedoms that vetrans have fought to help us keep. I was off and doing a little work at the house and the whole time I thought about those overseas fighting. I am glad that we celebrate this day and honor our vetrans. They deserve much praise and thanks.

I think we take for granted sometimes the sacrifice that our men and women in the military make for the safety of our country. I thank them and hope everyone of them comes back home safely. Mom

Oops, I forgot Uncle Marty (Katie & Ali's Dad) was a Marine too.

Believe it or not- this was a hard choice because Delaney has a lot of people in her family that have been in the military. Her Dad, her Grandpa Carroll, Poppy, Aunt Lala, Uncle Leo and Bob's Uncle Jimmy, Marnie's husband Christopher, and Bob's best friend Bill. We chose Uncle Jimmy because he was in WWII and because we knew he would be touch that Delaney thought of him. I have to tell you though that this was right before the election and she thought about doing it for John McCain because we had a conversation about how he was a POW and was lucky enough to make it back to his home. Anyway, it was a great exercise because Bob and I got the chance to share with her all the people she knows that have served our country and how important it is that people make the decision to serve and protect us and our freedom.
