Hope...pass it on...

“Never let go of hope. One day you will see that it all has finally come together. What you have always wished for has finally come to be. You will look back and laugh at what has passed and you will ask yourself... 'How did I get through all of that?”

Presidents Day ...

rushmore1 (10k image)

According to the federal government, the holiday observed on the third Monday in February is officially Washington's Birthday. But many Americans believe that this holiday is now called "Presidents Day," in honor of both Presidents Washington and Lincoln, whose birthdays are Feb. 22 and Feb. 12, respectively. It turns out that whether you honor one or the other or both of these presidents may depend on where you live. While the name change has never been authorized by Congress, it has gained a strong hold on the public consciousness, and is generally used on calendars, in advertising, and even by many government agencies.

Night out...

iowa (95k image)

Last night we went to the theater with Linda's sister and husband and saw, "Leaving Iowa" which is a warm and nostalgic comedy about a middle-aged writer searching for the perfect spot to scatter his father's ashes; along the way, he relives the summer vacations he spent trapped in the family station wagon as a boy.

Remember some of our family vacations?

Looking for Quotes

In the heart of scrapbooking, I am looking for all the funny things that the two little girls have said since they were born... I figured their mommies would be good sources for this info. I am looking for the quote and possible date (or at least age), circumstances around the quotes, and of course pictures that go with the (if there are any). I few I can think of:

"I not evil! I a fairy princess!" - Kelsie (age 2)

Mom says, "Delaney, let's go run some errands." As they are out, Delaney says, "Mom, where's Erin?" - Delaney (age 3)

Kelsie, what do you want for Christmas? "Toys" What kind of toys? "Lellow" Kelsie (age 2)

I am also looking for the Delaney stories from Myrtle Beach - the "widgie" story and the "smack my bootie" story, along with pictures.

Please post or e-mail me with as many as you can remember. I would like to document these.

Or maybe we should do them for all the kids... I think everyone's favorite is:
"Quit your bitchin' Barbie!" - and we all know who said this one, Little Miss Dee-bird! (age ?)
Or how about: "Who Rang My Bell!" Nicholas quoting the Wiz of Oz. He used to say that one a lot!
Then there was always Beth's "dot-gos" (hotdogs) and her "I love you 2 lots."

Anyway, let's remember these! Send 'em my way if you can think of some.

Not the peanut butter our mother use to give us...

peanutb (24k image)

A salmonella outbreak that has slowly grown to nearly 300 cases in 39 states since August has been linked to tainted peanut butter. About 20 percent of the 288 infected people have been hospitalized, but none has died. The Food and Drug Administration warned consumers not to eat certain jars of Peter Pan or Great Value peanut butter because of the risk of contamination. The affected jars have a product code on the lid that begins with the number “2111.”

Now you might think that the chances you have these are small- Linda and I had 2 jars with this number- one full, one almost empty. I now have a jar of Jiff!

“Winter is the season in which people try to keep the house as warm as it was in the summer, when they complained about the heat”

After more than a month of cold weather, Kansas City residents are starting to feel the effects.A Kansas City cold wave triggers the winter blues, which one in five people experience. We got a snow storm Monday night. Tuesday and today- schools were/are closed. I don't know about others- but that helps my blues (along with Vit. D).

Worth sharing...

sisters (98k image)

"Time passes, Life happens. Distance separates. Children grow up.
Jobs come and go. Love waxes and wanes. Men don't do what they're supposed to do .
Hearts break. Parents die. Colleagues forget favors. Careers end.
BUT.........
Sisters are there, no matter how much time and how many miles are between you.

A girl friend is never farther away than needing her can reach.
When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you have to walk it by yourself, the women in your life will be on the valley's rim, cheering you on, praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the valley's end.
Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk beside you...
Or come in and carry you out.
Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters, daughters-in-law, sisters, sisters-in-law, Mothers, Grandmothers, aunties, nieces, cousins, and extended family, all bless our life!
The world wouldn't be the same without women, and neither would I. When we began this adventure called womanhood, we had no idea of the incredible joys or sorrows that lay ahead. Nor did we know how much we would need each other.
Every day, we need each other still."

Kelly shared this poem and I thought it was wonderful and wanted to make sure others saw it too. Thanks Kelly- I really enjoyed this!

Lala & Linda as M&M's...

lala&linda (81k image)

Originally made as a high-energy field snack for American soldiers, because "they melt in your mouth, not in your hand." M&M's were named after Forrest Mars and Bruce Murries, the inventors.

Red M&M's were discontinued for 11 years from 1976 to 1985 after the FDA banned Red Dye No. 2, even though M&M's did not contain this dye. They have always used Red #'s 3 and 40!

Many consumers protested, and a student at the University of Tennessee (Paul Hethmon, the photo editor on the student newspaper, the Daily Beacon) started a society for the Restoration and Preservation of Red M&M's. Eventually the company relented and began producing it again. It was reintroduced it at about the same time as glasnost and the crumbling of the anti-Red scare. Focus groups were held to decide the correct proportions for the gradual reintroduction of the banned variety during the Christmas season of 1985.

The new proportions were 30% brown, 20% red, 20% yellow and 10% each of orange, green and tan for plain M&M's.

Project 365: How to Take a Photo a Day and See Your Life in a Whole New Way ...

0,,i=95114&sz=1,00 (25k image)

People will often say that their whole lives flashed before their eyes after they experienced a traumatic event. Perhaps it’s a bit morbid, but we think that sounds pretty incredible.

When Taylor McKnight started taking a photo a day on January 1st, 2004, he never imagined the project would not only serve as a way to remember a year, but also help him understand what was important to him in his life.

The challenge is deceptively simple: Take a picture a day. It can be of you, what you are doing or some other object you wish to take (like Delaney or Kelsie).

So...let's try this.
There are enough cameras out there- for more ideas...click link.

Snow...lots of snow!

mapNY (26k image)
"A lot of people like snow. I find it to be an unnecessary freezing of water.

While the northern Plains and Northeast shiver in dangerously cold temperatures, the folks in upstate New York are keeping warm shoveling snow -- lots of snow. The snow is falling at a rate of 5 inches an hour at times. This has forced state police to temporarily close Interstate 81 between Central Square and Pulaski, a stretch of about 15 miles. (Looks like mom & dad got lucky).
Hey everyone- stay put, stay warm, drink lots of hot cocoa.

Let's make a difference...

You've probably heard of the Six Degrees concept. Any one person (mainly, Kevin Bacon) is connected to any other person through six or fewer relationships, because it's a small world.

Six Degrees is about using this idea to accomplish something good. It's social networking with a social conscience. Through this web site, you can learn about and support the charities of celebrities and your friends, as well as fundraise for the causes close to your heart.

As you can see on the side bar- I have added a badge to help fight cancer
(in memory of Aunt Lu). I figured as the first anniversary of her death is upon us- we all might want to make a donation in her name. I listed several organizations who fight cancer- choose the one you like because I believe when one breaks the mystery- they all will succeed.

Phil Says Spring is Right Around the Corner!

philjohn07 (15k image)

Phil's official forecast as read 2/2/07 at 7:28 a.m. at Gobbler's Knob:
El Nino has caused high winds, heavy snow, ice and freezing temperatures in the west.
Here in the East with much mild winter weather we have been blessed.
Global warming has caused a great debate.
This mild winter makes it seem just great.
On this Groundhog Day we think of one thing.
Will we have winter or will we have spring?
On Gobbler's Knob I see no shadow today.
I predict that early spring is on the way.
