Earth Hour...

Earth Hour is an international event that asks households and businesses to turn off their lights and non-essential electrical appliances for one hour on the evening of 29 March at 8 pm local time until 9 pm to promote electricity conservation and thus lower carbon emissions. It may also help reduce light pollution, and in 2008, coincides with the beginning of National Dark Sky Week in the USA.

Making their love felt...

2flowers (50k image)
"The majority of us lead quiet, unheralded lives as we pass through this world. There will most likely be no ticker-tape parades for us, no monuments created in our honor. But that does not lessen our possible impact, for there are scores of people waiting for someone just like us to come along; people who will appreciate our compassion, our unique talents. Someone who will live a happier life merely because we took the time to share what we had to give. Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have a potential to turn a life around. It's overwhelming to consider the continuous opportunities there are to make our love felt."

Death of Common Sense...

common_20sense (31k image)

Common Sense, aka C.S., lived a long life, but died from heart failure at the brink of the millennium. No one really knows how old he was, his birth records were long ago entangled in miles and miles of bureaucratic red tape. Known affectionately to close friends as Horse Sense and Sound Thinking, he selflessly devoted himself to a life of service in homes, schools, hospitals and offices, helping folks get jobs done without a lot of fanfare, whooping and hollering. Rules and regulations and petty, frivolous lawsuits held no power over C.S. A most reliable sage, he was credited with cultivating the ability to know when to come in out of the rain, the discovery that the early bird gets the worm and how to take the bitter with the sweet. C.S. also developed sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn), reliable parenting strategies (the adult is in charge, not the kid) and prudent dietary plans (offset eggs and bacon with a little fiber and orange juice). A veteran of the Industrial Revolution, the Great Depression, the Technological Revolution and the Smoking Crusades, C.S. survived sundry cultural and educational trends including disco, the men's movement, body piercing, whole language and new math. C.S.'s health began declining in the late 1960s when he became infected with the If-It-Feels-Good, Do-It virus. In the following decades his waning strength proved no match for the ravages of overbearing federal and state rules and regulations and an oppressive tax code. C.S. was sapped of strength and the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, criminals received better treatment than victims and judges stuck their noses in everything from Boy Scouts to professional baseball and golf. His deterioration accelerated as schools implemented zero-tolerance policies. Reports of 6-year-old boys charged with sexual harassment for kissing classmates, a teen suspended for taking a swig of Scope mouthwash after lunch, girls suspended for possessing Midol and an honor student expelled for having a table knife in her school lunch were more than his heart could endure.
As the end neared, doctors say C.S. drifted in and out of logic but was kept informed of developments regarding regulations on low-flow toilets and mandatory air bags. Finally, upon hearing about a government plan to ban inhalers from 14 million asthmatics due to a trace of a pollutant that may be harmful to the environment, C.S. breathed his last. Services will be at Whispering Pines Cemetery. C.S. was preceded in death by his wife, Discretion; one daughter, Responsibility; and one son, Reason. He is survived by two step-brothers, Half-Wit and Dim-Wit.
Memorial Contributions may be sent to the Institute for Rational Thought.
Farewell, Common Sense. May you rest in peace.

What a trip...

smiledeck (143k image)
“Smile, breathe and go slowly.”

Well, it is hard to believe it is coming to an end. Today we went shopping because yesterday we got a little too much sun and we are red and sore today. We waited till later this afternoon to hit the beach- this is Linda's favorite thing to do. The other night we ate at Chesapeake House (and we did see the gator) and went to see "Bucket List". I was a little disappointed but I'll get to that another time. Today we went to Margaretville (again).. love the salad. We are going to Boardwalk on the Beach after dinner and Kris should be in about 10 ish. We will hit the road back home tomorrow and pray the weather holds out (no flooding along the way or snow). We will miss the quite, the slow pace, the beach, the sunshine, the sounds of the beach... but it felt good to recharge. Thanks Nana & Poppy- we love the condo and can't wait to do it again and we appreciate the opportunity to use it. We'll share pictures when we get home (have to take the camera in, got dirt into the mirrors-YUCK) but we got quite a few to remember the trip. Till then...

We got here...

morning (118k image)

After 24 hours in the car & threats of a tornando... this makes it all worth it!
After waiting for the storm to pass, we ventured out to grab a quick bite. We decided to use the list mom & dad sent us. We did not went a big fancy meal so we picked...Joe's hamburger joint. Dad said it was cheap, quick...we sat down and the menu said $ 22-25 per meal. Well there is a Joe's Bar and Grill right next to Joe's hamburger, we apologized and went for our burger...YUM. Next to Walmart for some food. We are now enjoying a cup of coffee with an omlete with asparagus and ham. Then we will head out to the beach. The weather is beautiful, wish you were here!

The Magical Power of Focus...

20080312focus (33k image)
“Always remember, your focus determines your reality.”

It’s something we don’t think about much of the time, but give it some consideration now:

* If you wake up in the morning and think about the miserable things you need to do later in the day, you’ll have a miserable day. If you wake up and focus instead on what a wonderful gift your life is, you’ll have a great day.
* If we let our attention jump from one thing to another, we will have a busy, fractured and probably unproductive day. If we focus entirely on one job, we may lose ourselves in that job, and it will not only be the most productive thing we do all day, but it’ll be very enjoyable.
* If we focus on being tired and wanting to veg out in front of the TV, we will get a lot of television watching done. If, however, we focus on being healthy and fit, we will become healthy and fit through exercise and good eating.

This may seem simplistic, but it’s completely true. This is the magical power of focus. For more...click link.

10 Tips to Change Yourself From a Dedicated Couch-Potato to a Gym Enthusiast...

couch (10k image)

Exercise helps keep you happy and vital. Studies show that folks who exercise are healthier, cheerier, more energetic, think more clearly, sleep better, and have delayed onset of dementia. What’s more, they get relief from anxiety and mild depression—comparable to medication and therapy.

But of course, no one really disputes the benefit of exercise. The trick is actually DOING IT.
These ten strategies helped me stick to my routine:click link...

* Kelsie got to do a cheer for Kam's tournament- she got out there and yelled..."Give me an E, Give me an A, Give me a K, Give me an E...What's it spell (Eagles) I can't hear you (Eagles) then sat down. Nana said it was a hoot.

* Delaney went to Splash Lagoon. Delaney + water = happiness! She was trying to cross the lily pads and boy was she excited when she did it.

*Kam had another tournament this weekend. He didn't play much because he has been sick all week with the crude going around. They did win and it was a great way to wrap up basketball season.

* It continues to snow, and rain and ice all across the country. New York got hit and Nana and Poppy lost power during the night. Pray it's nice next weekend because Linda and Lala leave for Myrtle Beach.

* What's happening with you?

Kris's Big Catch...

the-big-fish (147k image)

I went deep sea fishing in Key largo (love to fish) and I caught this huge fish - he was about 5-5.5 ft long and over 50 lbs - good thing I work out because it took me 15-20 minutes to reel him in and Freddy (guy in picture) had to help me get it on the boat - as you can see I was ecstatic about it - I have now been dubbed fishing goddess of National Accounts!
Edited: You have to let them go- I'd like to see her get this home on the plane and the freezer is too small to hold it (just right for cats!).

2152126317_c8205b78c0 (74k image)

Kameron played in a double elimination basketball tournament this weekend...here's how it went:

First game they played Geneva (during the season lost by about 30 points) lost first game by ten- much improvement.

Second game against Macedon, won and Kameron scored about 27 points- yippee!

Third game against Waterloo- won Kameron scored around 16 points

Fourth game on Sunday- back to Geneva and they lead the whole game to lose by 1 point in the last few seconds- Kameron scored around 22 points.

The words above were from a coach telling his team to block Kameron- he did so well this weekend and improved so much this year. I think the Kenny DiSanto family had fun but I think Nana & Poppy DiSanto had more fun cheering on the team!

Stuck in PA

080228_clippersnow (29k image)

Well, with very much help from David and Erin (thanks guys), my moving truck is loaded. Dad and I hit the road yesterday, but hit the storm. With a forecast of 1 to 3 inches, we didn't think it would be that bad. We elected to take RT 81 because they usually maintain the roads. Well, they didn't. The truck was doing okay because it was so heavy, but my little car was all over the place and I was only going 20 mph. We decided to stop to grab some food at the first exit with a sit down restaurant. 40 min and 12 miles later, we stopped at Cracker Barrel and called Lydia to look up the weather for us. We decided since the warning was until 7AM, it wasn't worth risking our lives. So, we booked a room at the Holiday Inn. Now, we are about to hit the road again, looks clear out there. However, I'm worried about my drive on Sunday, cause they are calling for more snow out to NH! Oh, winter is fun!
