Kevin's new home...

front (152k image)
"Home is the one place in all this world where hearts are sure of each other."

Here it is...9916 Davis Lake Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28269.
Kevin is pretty happy with his new house. He can grill outside in his backyard and sit on his deck or enjoying watching TV in his living room. On those chilly nights he even has a fireplace. He has two bedrooms, his main room and a spare plus a party room and a den to work out of. He has lots of room to cook and spacious room to eat. Now to work off all that great cooking, he works out in his garage. He has lots of space and a place to finally call home.

Say lots of prayers

"Is solace anywhere more comforting than in the arms of a sister."

Linda's sister Joann had a Pet scan this week that confirmed (90%) that she has cancer. She will get the biopsy this week to find out what type, what stage and the prognosis. It is looking like it started in the lungs. This showed up back in December but that Doctor choose to do NOTHING (asshole). Linda is very sad and this will be a very difficult time for her so please keep her in your prayers. Thanks.

*77

My mom sent this to me and asked me to post for everyone:

I knew about the red light on cars, but not the *77.

It was about 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon, and Lauren was driving to visit a friend. An UNMARKED police car pulled up behind her and put his lights on. Lauren's parents have always told her never to pull over for an unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather to wait until they get to a gas station, etc.

Lauren had actually listened to her parents advice, and promptly called *77 on her cell phone to tell the police dispatcher that she would not pull over right away. She proceeded to tell the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car with a flashing red light (!) on his rooftop behind her. The dispatcher checked to see if there were police cars where she was, and there weren't, and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he had back up already on the way.

Ten minutes later 4 cop cars surrounded her and the unmarked car behind her. One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind. They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the ground. The man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes.

I never knew about the *77 Cell PhoneFeature - did you? - but especially for a woman alone in a car, you should not pull over for an unmarked car. Apparently police have to respect your right to keep going to a safe & quiet place. You obviously need to make some signals that you acknowledge them (i.e. put on your hazard lights) or call*77 like Lauren did.

Too bad the cell phone companies don't generally give you this little bit of wonderful information. Conversation with a service representative at Bell Mobility confirmed that *77 was a direct link to
state trooper info. So, now it's your turn to let your friends know about *77.

Send this to every woman (and person) you know; it may save a life.

Remembering Virginia Tech

memorial6.jpg

I haven't posted anything on the recent events at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2007, because I didn't really know what to say. It is a tragic thing to lose so many lives, and especially so many that are so young. One of the girls was from my town here. It hit us hard because we live only 2-3 hours away from where this took place. VCU is nearby and they have been honoring those fallen. Yesterday was Virginia Tech Day and everywhere that you went people were wearing maroon and yellow. Even the Boston Red Sox carried a small VT logo on their uniforms yesterday. It is scary and unfortunate and I will never understand what could bring someone to do something so cruel. Right now I just want to ask people to pray for the families, friends, and faculty of Virginia Tech. There are some amazing photos on the front of their website, which has now changed too. They thank everyone who came to help, list the names of the fallen, and this quote:

We will continue to invent the future through our blood and tears and through all our sadness ... We will prevail ...

Job update

I got offered both jobs in Virginia. I think the job I’m going to take is the management group job. They offer slightly higher pay, more creative work and I get the week between Christmas and New Years off paid vacation time! Yea! So now, the apartment search and big move is underway! I have less than a month to figure everything out and get my butt to Virginia!

Shopping for Bridesmaid Dresses

So my sister ended up coming into town this weekend because she had two interviews in the area… so we took part of the day yesterday to go try on some bridesmaid dresses. We came up with two very simple styles that we like (8567 and 8007), which are shown below. And the funny part is that they are actually more formal than I thought I was going to like. Because Beth has a figure that is not easy to work with, we tried on about two dozen and these two looked the best. Now, orginally I wanted the champagne color because it matches part of my dress, but we decided the darker latte color might be better so that everything does not blend as much. And then Beth tried on one in cinnamon because it was in her size (they keep several in the colors/sizes but you may have to try them on in a different color just for size) and we kinda like it. If you look at the colors below, it is more like the color in the second dress (on the bottom)… the first looks kinda light. Orginally I would not like an orangy colored dress, but this one is more of a rust and is truly beautiful and different. So now we are torn between the two colors and styles. We think we like the first style best, minus the ugly diamond pin thing, but it is more expensive ($150 vs. $99 on special), but that wrap over really made my sister look stunning. So we thought we would put it out there for people to comment on which they think because I am truly torn. Latte would be easier to match things too and many of our decorations will match (we got stuff in red), but the cinnamon is different and would really add some color for a fall wedding… and I could get my red/orange calalillies that I loved form the beginning. I don’t know… I need your imput.

Erin's dresses

I tried to post on your website but I did not have some of the information that they wanted so I am posting here. I love the latte color. That is so cool and you can do so many things and use so many colors with it. Either style is good, I think you need to go with what looks the best on the girls. Maybe you could go into this website and post the dresses. I think everyone would love to see them. Also, keep putting the resemes. for some reason, I can't spell that today. Anyway keep putting them out because you will get something. It is not easy right now and the ones that get the jobs are the ones that push, push, push. Wouldn't it be great if Beth got a job near to you! Good luck. Think Latte! Love Nana

The Benefits of a Catholic Education...

Little Zachary, a little kid, was doing very badly in math. His parents had tried everything: tutors, mentors, flash cards, special learning centres; in short, everything they could think of to help his mathematics.
Finally, in a last ditch effort, they took Zachary down and enrolled him in the local Catholic school.
After the first day, little Zachary came home with a very serious look on his face. He didn't even kiss his mother hello. Instead, he went straight to his room and started studying.
Books and papers were spread out all over the room and little Zachary was hard at work.
His mother was amazed. She called him down to dinner, to her shock, the minute he was done, he marched back to his room without a word, and in no time, he was back hitting the books as hard as before.
This went on for some time, day after day, while the mother tried to understand what made all the difference.
Finally, little Zachary brought home his report card. He quietly laid it on the table, went up to his room, and hit the books.
With great trepidation, his Mum looked at it and to her great surprise, little Zachary got an "A" in math.
She could no longer hold her curiosity. She went to his room and said: "Son, what was it? Was it the nuns?" Little Zachary looked at her and shook his head, "No"
Well, then", she replied, "Was it the books, the discipline, the structure, the uniforms? WHAT was it?"
Little Zachary looked at her and said, "Well, on the first day of school, when I saw that guy nailed to the Plus Sign, I knew they weren't fooling around."

21 steps. It alludes to the twenty-one gun salute, which is the highest honor given any military or foreign dignitary.

Easter Sunday...

crosschurch (107k image)

Throughout all of history, people of faith have clung to the belief that there is a God who understands the human dilemma. That the pains we endure on Earth are not meaningless. That our prayers are heard. In Passion, we Christians focus on the supreme event when God demonstrated for all time that he knows our pain.
For a reminder of his time here, Jesus chose scars in each hand. That is why I believe God hears and understands our pain, and even absorbs it into himself—because he kept those scars as a lasting image of wounded humanity. He knows what life on earth is like, because he has been here. His hands prove it.

Good Friday...

easter (27k image)

We may not literally crucify people any more, but poverty and oppression are a form of crucifixion. Hate and racism and other "-isms" are forms of crucifixion. We perjure ourselves when we say we want to spread the good news of the kingdom of God and yet work hard to exclude those who aren't just like us. The Passion narrative certainly does have a great deal to say to us about our own complicity in the passion and death of Jesus. "They shall look on him whom they have pierced" applies to us, too. We really do need this time to reflect on this most sorrowful story.

Too cute...

jelly-bean-bunnies-sm (165k image)

This is my first try at knitting a toy! I think it came out pretty cute! I made these for my cousins, Delaney and Kelsie, for Easter. I made them with Paton’s wool yarn, knitting in the round on size 7 DPNs (double-pointed needles for the non-knitters), and felted them from this pattern on Etsy. As you can see, I changed his colors because I was trying to use some yarn that I had on hand and he is felted where the orginal pattern is not (I am big on felting right now). I also added several extra rows to adjust for the felting process (felting shrinks more in length than width). Now I just need to get them in mail before Easter! Yikes!

* Are your eyes watering, itching, swollen, your nose running, sneezing? This spring, according to the Web site- Pollen.com, high allergy levels stretch from Washington state to Washington, D.C. In Atlanta, a count of 120 would be extremely high, but yesterday it was 5,768. Take care.
* Lala received a Flat Stanley in the mail- how fun.
* Linda is suffering from severe pain in her left abdomen- she has had several test, is on pain meds and goes in for another test tomorrow- please keep her in your prayers.

During the assembly we had all our ELL (English Language Learners) introduce themselves and what country they came from and then say PEACE in their native langauge. I made a movie with kids and staff talking about "What Peace means to them" and each grade level sang songs. Kids got excited and tired but it went well.
