Goodbye...

9_pt-Union (45k image)

After 12.5 years- I leave Union Chapel behind. I did not realize this would be so hard, but it is. It would be different if this was my choice but this is a forced change (and I don't think I like this kind of change!). Some of my dearest friends gave me goodbye gifts and cookies and hugs and I cried (like this is something new). Now I get to go say goodbye to 2 colleagues who resigned that I have worked with 9 & 11 years. Then I also get a new administrator and new school for next year (one who does not want me and has made that fact well known). Why can't we just love our jobs, work with the kids and quit all the other BS? Oh by the way- today was the last day of school for the kids and tomorrow is the last work day for the teachers. Another year done.

Project...

music (230k image)

To record every album, tape and CD into MP3 format on my computer. Then I will be shedding myself of all the "physical" music. Something you might be looking for- ask me? New goal- declutter. I think I can do this with almost everything short of my books (don't know how to do that yet). I will be reducing decorations, music, clothing, dishes, furniture...less is good!

A Year ago today...we were here...

yearago (152k image)
"New York remains what it has always been: a city of ebb and flow, a city of constant shifts of population and economics, a city of virtually no rest. It is harsh, dirty and dangerous, it is whimsical and fanciful, it is beautiful and soaring--it is not one or another of these things but all of them,
all at once, and to fail to accept this paradox is to deny the reality of city existence."

Congrats to Sarah

honor (129k image)

Sarah Anne was inducted into the National Technical Honor Society last night. Wish I could have taken a picture but camera is dead. She was beautiful and brought tears to my eyes again. So very proud of you and your academics but more so for you and your character. You are your own woman and I love you!
I was there and her Dad and Sandy were there, along with her boyfriend Colton and her best friend Courtney. She makes me so proud and brought tears to my eyes yet again for a second time as this is her second Honor Society induction this year. So very very proud of her and her commitment and not just school work but her character! You will go so far Sarah and so very proud of you!

Love you,
Your Mom

The Peace Within...

within (86k image)
"May there be peace within.
May you trust your highest power
that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite
possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you
have received, and pass on the love
that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you
are a child of God. Let His spiritual
presence settle into your bones, and
allow your soul the freedom to sing,
dance, and to bask in the sun. It is there for each
and every one of you."

The tickle monster...

getu (121k image)

She knocks down doors and is relentless, she is the tickle monster who loves to go after her mother (who HATES being tickled).Tickling is perhaps one of the most common human behaviors known. While many people assume that other people enjoy tickling, a recent survey of 84 college students indicated that only 32% of respondents enjoyed being tickled (32% and 36% of respondents, respectively, either gave neutral responses, or stated that they did not enjoy being tickled.)
She is going to get you...

Peace Pole...

peacepole2 (123k image)
"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."

Here is the Peace Pole we put in at our school. There are two languages on each side and also a dedication plate and braille plate. We choose languages spoken in our school (They all say- "May Peace Prevail on Earth"). The only language not spoken is Italian but our principal is Italian so she put it in (like I would complain). This is what Linda and I are putting in our garden with 4 language- English, Gaelic (Irish), Italian and animal prints. I would like a dedication plate with the quote above- I do believe we have to be the change!

Dealing with life's burdens...

crayons (27k image)

1. Accept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue.
2. Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.
3. Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.
4. Drive carefully. It's not only cars that can be recalled by their Maker.
5. If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.
6. If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.
7. It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
8. Never buy a car you can't push.
9. Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won't have a leg to stand on.
10. Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.
11. Since it's the early worm that gets eaten by the bird, sleep late.
12. The second mouse gets the cheese.
13. When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.
14. Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.
15. You may be only one person in the world, but you may also be the world to one person.
16. Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.
17. We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.
18. A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

Stress Management...

glass_of_water (5k image)

A lecturer, when explaining stress management to an audience, raised a glass of water and asked, "How heavy is this glass of water?" Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz.

The lecturer replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long you try to hold it. If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance."

In each case, it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.

He continued, "And that's the way it is with stress management. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on. "

"As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden. "

"So, before you return home tonight, put the burden of work/life down. Don't carry it home. You can pick it up tomorrow."

Whatever burdens you're carrying now, let them down for a moment if you can. Relax; pick them up later after you've rested. Life is short. Enjoy!

Look how he's grown...

beautifulboy (128k image)
"Before you go to sleep, say a little prayer,
Every day in every way, it's getting better and better.
Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful Boy.
Out on the ocean sailing away, I can hardly wait,
to see you come of age. But I guess we'll both just have to be patient.
Yes it's a long way to go but in the meantime...
Before you cross the street, take my hand,
Life is just what happens to you, while your busy making other plans.
Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful Boy."

Here was Kameron making his first communion and now today- his Confirmation. Confirmation is often defined as a sacrament of mature Christian commitment. It is the occasion when young people baptized as infants put their "personal signature" on their parents' decision. My New Motorbike

krissmotorbike1 (60k image)
Please let me introduce you to my new motorbike - it is a 600 cc Honda Shadow. Only had 1600 miles on it and it was sold to me at exactly what I wanted to spend. It is a used bike but in great condition. I have not ridden in traffic yet except around my neighborhood because I do not have a tag for it yet. I do have my license - passed all my tests etc. I will ride this for a few years and then trade up to a Harley Davidson but I do like this one. I am getting better and better on it everyday and Matty and Dee say - its really cool Mom!

Hotel Info. for Wedding Guests

I know a lot of people have been asking for this information, and we are not ready to send invitations yet but I want people to be able to call and reserve rooms as soon as possible, so here you go...

Holiday Inn
775 North Street
Auburn, New York
#315-253-4531

$89.99 for Standard Room (2 beds)
$99.99 for King Room
Cut-off date: August 2, 2007

Tell them you are in the Culver/Dessis party and let them know if it is for Sunday night, Monday night or both. They only reserve 10 rooms at a time for the block, but they will increase that number as it gets closer if needed. If you have already called and reserved and the rate they set aside for me is better, just call and have it switched to our party and they can change it.

Ten Thoughts on Whole Living...

nose (141k image)

1. Your home is more than the sum of its walls. Make it a sacred space.
2. Creativity is a lifestyle, not simply an activity. Let is expand you.
3. True forgiveness springs from love, not regret.
4. Learn something new. Emphasize the trying, not the succeeding.
5. Spend some time in the dirt. You'll be amazed at what nature can inspire.
6. You don't have to have a perfect body to feel great in it.
7. Define yourself by who you are, not the roles you play.
8. Find rejuvenation in five minutes of silence.
9. Contribute to abundance. If you no longer need something, pass it on.
10. Find direction in your life by looking where you want to go, not where you don't.

momday (160k image)
"God took the fragrance of a flower,
The majesty of a tree,
The gentleness of morning dew,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The beauty of a twilight hour,
The soul of a starry night
The laughter of the rippling brook,
The grace of a bird in flight,
Then God fashioned from these things
A creation like no other,
And when His masterpiece was through,
He called it simply...MOTHER."

A Step Up, One Foot at a Time!

(From David) This morning I got the call. I am officially the International Sales Experience Manager for Bose’s AIM division. I’m getting a decent raise, they will pay for my cell phone, and I will be traveling to Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil. We are super psyched! And Erin, of course, is also super psyched that she can go with me on some of these trips as long as she gets her passport soon (Mine is already on the way!). We also think that with this new job for me and her new job at the scrapbook store, maybe we can start looking for a house so that Erin will not be alone in this neighborhood while I travel. We’re a little bummed because it is 70% travel and do not know how much I will be home/gone, but we figure that we are used to being apart already anyway. We can do this for a few years… at least until I can move into a district manager position, and this puts me in a great place for that next step. As well, I can now get holidays off so we will plan to be home at Christmas. This is so awesome and we are totally excited!

When life hands you lemons...

lemons4 (51k image)

* Cut them in half and squeeze the stinging, citrus pulp into the eyes of those who would dare to mock, threaten or oppose you.

*Make lemonade. Add vodka. Drink. Declare that "life isn't so bad after all."

*Say, "Lemons? For me? Cool. Can I have some more?" Life will comply, as it is eager to give you lemons. When it does, exclaim, "Hey, everybody, look at all these lemons! I'm the luckiest woman alive!" Life will eventually become bored with its game of handing you lemons, since you obviously aren't going to play along, and will go off to find someone else to mess with.

Won't that be nice...

Here we go again...just like 1993!

flood (154k image)

Heavy rain from an already deadly storm system sent the Missouri River and other Midwest waterways over their banks Tuesday, forcing thousands of people to evacuate and bringing warnings that the region could see flooding close to the devastation of 1993.

Many roads and businesses are closed down and everyone is just waiting to see what happens. Our barn flooded and the rain just drains out of the soil. We were receiving more than 5" an hour in some places. It is suppose to rain most of this week so say a prayer...Mother Nature can be cruel.

Friday was Hawthorn's Peace Festival...

art1 (147k image)
"...if peace is our vision, let us begin..."

It rained all week in Kansas City but today the sun came out and our students went out and did sidewalk art on what peace means to them. The kids had a blast. When the parents showed up ( we think we had between 400-450) they could view the site for our peace pole. Ours will have 8 different languages and a braille plate. You can check them out here. They got dinner for a dollar (hotdog, chips and water), free cotton candy- they really liked it! We had each grade sing peace songs. The other school I work at, Union Chapel has a drum club (wrote a grant with a teacher several years ago for this) and they came over and performed. They were wonderful! We also had "One Earth-One Sky" kite fly. We had a wonderful breeze and the kites really took off. Kids could also make paper cranes, get a tatoo, which they love to show off. We also displayed the John Denver Peace Cloth and even had a member of their board, Sarah attend. You can check out this project at John Denver Peace Cloth. We will be adding our own panel to the cloth and had everyone who attended signed the panel. We got some very interesting signings. All and all it was a wonderful success. I took 219 pictures, many familes attended and my principal was happy. Now I am very tired and going to bed!

To use his talents as an author, illustrator and humorist to make life easier for kids.Trevor has published 30 books in 14 languages, with over one million books sold.In the fall of 2003, Trevor and his business partners started The Trevor Romain Company with one goal in mind - to produce high quality content that embodies real life lessons for kids.

Trevor is well known for his work in the local and national community as a board member of the National Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation and a collaborator with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, The Miracle Foundation and Any Baby Can.

Trevor has taken his mission overseas as well by performing for children at military bases across the globe through multiple USO tours. He has also been sought out by the United Nations to develop materials for children in armed conflict areas.

I use many of his products in my groups and have read his blog for a very long time.Check it out at Trevor Romain. He did an assembly at one of Park Hill schools today. I went to see him, purchase several "new" items and he signed many of them for me. It was very exciting.

Happy Cinco De Mayo...

cinco-de-mayo1 (16k image)

In the United States Cinco de Mayo is observed by many Americans regardless of ethnic origins, particularly along the southern border states where there is a large Hispanic population. Although it is no more an officially recognized holiday than St. Patrick's Day or May Day in the United States, many cities with large Hispanic populations honor the day as a symbolic representation of Hispanic pride and as a representation of a culture that blends both Mexican and American roots.

Finally, A JOB!

My interview went great today and I got offered the job at the scrapbook store. It's not what I am used to getting paid, as you can imagine, but it is a paycheck and is going to work out great for a while. It's actually for 40 hours a week too, which is way more than I had planned (I thought it would be 20 or so), so I am totally excited about that too. It looks like I will be a scrappin' fool... livin' it, workin' it, breathin' it! And the best part is that I got the job off if two things: 1.) my prior experience at a large scrapbook store (which got me the call because they needed someone bad); and 2.) my 2 scrapbooks that I brought (including the New York one and my family one with all the layouts of the kids). She didn't even go through the interview questions and just said, "Ya know what? I like what you've got here and I'm offering you the job. Yeah, these are great! You scrap like I do and I love it." Whew, a boost of creative confidence back in my corner. It was just what I needed to hear.

I'm so glad that I can stop taking money out of savings now to pay some bills... it is a relief. AND, it may end up being more work because the people who own it are selling it because they want to focus on their balloon distributing company and they may want some freelance work for their balloon catalog! And the new owners coming in may need me to do their newsletter and website, so this may end up being quite a cool job after all... not to mention that their assistant manager recently left and she made mention of it like maybe I could work into that. Not too bad, if you ask me. I am just happy to have a job doing something I love. I start tomorrow! Busy, busy day being National Scrapbooking Day and all! I can't wait!

Growing big...

biggirl (87k image)
"God made the world with its towering trees, majestic mountains and restless seas.
Then stopped and said, “It needs one more thing...someone to laugh, dance and sing.
To walk in the woods and gather flowers, to commune with nature in quiet hours.
So God created little girls, with laughing eyes and bouncing curls,
With joyful hearts and infectious smiles, enchanting ways and feminine wiles,
And when He'd completed the task he'd begun,
He was pleased and proud of the job He'd done.
For the world, when seen through little girl's eyes, Greatly resembles paradise."

Here is Dalaney's Easter outfit. She is getting so big and was so excited to wear this necklace which use to be her cousin Megan's and was a gift to her from Phil and Marcy. She also thinks it pretty cool to wear shoes with heals...she is quite the little girl (jewelry and shoes)!

He's at it again...

"No one can stop a home run. No one can understand what it really is, unless you have felt it in your own hands and body.... As the ball makes its high, long arc beyond the playing field, the diamond and the stands suddenly belong to one man. In that brief,
brief time, you are free of all demands an complications."

Kameron is back at it- he hit a run that hit the top of the fence and fell back in (so close to a home run out of the field) but scored many runs. When his dad got there it was 0-6 (Kam's team was losing). They put Kam in as pitcher and he walked 1, one hit and all strike outs so the team won 12-6 in the end. That's our boy!

Too Tired...

tootired (6k image)

I'm already exhausted and I just finished Monday!
* I had a grant due at 11:59 p.m.- I finished submitting it at 11:58. When I got home from my client meeting after my full day at work- I realized I e-mailed home the wrong file, had to run to school, get the right one, finish the grant and submit it...done.
* Tomorrow I have to pick up baby trees for the Friday "Peace Festival" and finish turning in grades at UMKC.
* Wednesday I have another client meeting after work
* Thursday I have an early morning meeting
* Friday I have a doctors appointment at 7:15 and work at 8:30 and a "Peace Festival" from 6-8
Now this doesn't take into account keeping up my home, yard and other projects like Mothers Day gifts, putting up tile, or taking care of business with Joann or sending info to UK on the conflict cycle that a consultant liked, or making CD's for mom and Kris or paying bills.
I just want to stay in bed and veg!
