I finished up a page I had worked on for a long time (wanted a little relaxation today) and here is the More hugs and kisses from Delaney. I like it because I got to use pictures of lots of different people and I got to use the new grommet tool.

At the end of the day...

endofday (80k image)
“The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live.”

We got some done this weekend- not as much as we would have like as it is HOT here and hard to work outside.
I took a pickup truck load of stuff to Goodwill. It is slowly coming together and we are slowly reducing the clutter.
I washed, waxed and detailed the car, it had been neglected and was so dirty- it took most of the day to clean it all. Now I do not want to drive it and get it dirty!
We trimmed the tree last weekend and this weekend I cut up all the branches to burn in the chimenea. It is nice to sit at night, try a cocktail and watch the fire- relaxing!
We also had a truck load of black mulch that we put in the flower gardens. See the mulch around the tree above.

Stop, Drop and Roll...

roll (132k image)

I think we were all taught that in grade school, in case we were caught in a fire.
My definition of a “fire” today is the occasional extremely frustrating situations that can occur unexpectedly. We’ve all experienced them and thought in the heat of the moment, “This can’t be happening to me.”
At that moment, “Stop.” There is nothing you can do about it.
Secondly, "Drop.” Release your frustration, it isn’t productive.
Next, “Roll.” Roll on to a solution immediately to make things better.
This is what we need to do when faced with the unexpected fires that need to be put out.
Give it a try next time you find yourself in a “fire.” At least it might make you smile. : )

I love organization...

cupboard (176k image)

I made it through all my kitchen cupboards- getting rid of the million cups and glasses so things fit. All the drawers got organized too. Good Will is going to get a truck full tomorrow.
I finally got the ceiling in the bathroom scrapped and we found a new paint with "sand" in it for the ceiling. I also didn't realize how much the ceiling caught cobwebs (yuck). I also went through all my bookcases, taking out all the "extra" books so the rooms look neater. I am still working on coping over CDs and tapes (a few each day). We have up almost all the tiles in the kitchen and next week I shed myself of all the school social work stuff (creating more room). Slowly it happens...I know it's summer time.

No more school soccer for Crestdale...

wildcats. (9k image)

I'm done with playing school soccer at Crestdale and am hoping to make the team at Butler...playing for Crestdale was a great experience. I finished my 8th grade year with the team 10-1-2 and came in second to J.M.Robinson are rivals. i scored 3 goals but don't worry i had 10 assists [ most on the team ] what can i say, i distribute the ball very well. but club soccer is going to start on July 9th for preseason camp and couple of tourney's. then back to business.. different team but a better one and we are hoping to win the league again and move to region 3 and do well in state cup. but i understand it will take hard work and heart. but don't worry MATILDA has got it all...Wish me luck for the season and i will keep everyone posted.

The Benefits of Berries - Red, Black & Blue are Berry Good for You!

-- By Leanne Beattie, Health & Fitness Writer

Isn’t it wonderful when something that tastes so yummy is also good for you? That’s what you get when you enjoy the delicious, sweet flavor of berries. The pigments that give berries their deep red, blue, black and purple hues are powerful, disease-fighting antioxidants. It is believed that antioxidant-rich foods offer protection against conditions such as heart disease and cancer.

The scientific community measures the antioxidant levels in foods using the ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) test. The higher the ORAC value, the more antioxidants a food provides.

Scientists have discovered that berries have some of the highest antioxidant levels of any fresh fruits. Raspberries, for example, contain an especially high level of antioxidants—three times more than kiwis and 10 times more than tomatoes.

The average serving of fresh or lightly cooked produce provides between 600 and 800 ORAC units. But berries blow these values away—one cup of blueberries has an ORAC value of 5486, followed by blackberries at 4654, strawberries with 3520, and raspberries at 2789. Scientists believe that eating between 2000 and 5000 ORAC units daily may increase the body's antioxidant supply high enough to result in positive health outcomes.

Raspberries
Slightly tart and juicy, the raspberry is a nutritional powerhouse in a tiny package. Raspberries are rich in ellagic acid (which provides the majority of the berry's antioxidants), and anthocyanins (which give raspberries their deep, red color and exhibit antimicrobial properties). As if their high antioxidant content wasn’t enough, raspberries are also great sources of the vitamins and minerals riboflavin, niacin, folate, magnesium, potassium, copper, manganese and vitamin C. *Note: Raspberries contain oxalates, a naturally-occurring substance that can build up in body fluids and crystallize, causing health problems. If you have any kidney or gallbladder problems, you may want to avoid raspberries for this reason.

Update on the DC life...

I've been seeing a lot of the DC sites, including art museums, monuments and the zoo. If you want to see my photos, visit my flickr. I'll paste some entries to from my website so you can read about me at least...

Update on the new life... it's been a while. I spend my first two weekends traveling home, so I haven't really settled into anything just yet. I had a friend's wedding two weekends ago and last weekend I went home for my Mom's graduation (so proud of her). I also saw a concert, Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace, in PA with Lydia. Breaking Benjamin was awesome, Three Days Grace was a little disappointing.

Last Thursday I played my first company softball game. I was all worried that I was going to suck, but it turns out the team itself has a lot of people playing that have never played before, so I'm like really good in comparison. One girl even called me the all star because I caught like 4 pop flys. I hit really well too, in the outfield almost every time! They are happy to have me on the team and I'm glad to be playing again. Although my jersey says "DEB" on the back, which is confusing for people. I missed the shirt ordering, so I got someone who couldn't play. Which is fine, I don't really care as long as I get to play. William let me borrow his bug spray cause of the bugs.... what bugs I ask you, I dunno. He said they were bad, but I didn't see a bug. Now, back home on the fields entire swarms of bugs surround you in the outfield... those are bugs. Too funny. But holy crap, it's hot!! I'm melting. Our first game was relatively cool too, so I know I'm going to melt. I need to find some gym shorts somewhere, my supply has dwindled over the years and the elastic is going in my last pair. Friday the high was 96 and summer is just getting started. Its been a bit cooler since, but still toasty!

Last night I went to a party with my roommate, Bethany. That was really fun. I'm glad to have gone to a social setting! I drank some beer, played some beer pong and made a s'more. Good times.

This weekend I ventured into DC. The metro is just right down the road 5 minutes. Then I ride the subway into DC... about 20 min depending on where you are going. Saturday I went to The Phillips Collection and Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. I took many photos. Then, I lost my metro card. Damn. So I took a cab to meet my roommate Bethany and her friend Lia at the Georgetown waterfront for some Pizza, Ice Cream and people watching. We strolled around the waterfront and let the dogs walk themselves. It's really cute. Brady takes the leash in his mouth and walks with us. People just think it's adorable (I have to agree). After we came home, we picked up Amanda and headed back to DC to see the Memorials at night. Wow, they are amazing. I saw the Lincoln, Jefferson, Roosevelt, WW2 and Washington.

Yesterday I went to the zoo. I saw lots of animals and took lots of photos. I then hit a Sushi bar I found called Spices. It was ok. I also bought a book, 60 hikes within 60 miles of DC. So I'm looking forward to checking some of those out.

How to look at LOTS of pictures....

There are two ways to do this:
1. Set up your own Flickr account and have Erin, Beth and La as contacts and you can view all photos we put up (Delaney's graduation, Kim's graduation). Just go to Flickr and sign up for your own account- then you too can put up photos.
2. Write me and I will give you the username and password to use the pro account- then you can see all the photos too.
Flickr-it's a good thing!

More Art...

Beth went to Washington, D.C. and visited the The Phillips Collection. The Phillips Collection, America's first museum of modern art, opened in 1921 in the home of Duncan Phillips (1886–1966). The collection includes Renoir's great masterpiece Luncheon of the Boating Party, along with other outstanding Impressionist paintings by van Gogh, Monet, Degas and Cézanne. The comfortable galleries are a perfect setting for Vuillard's intimate canvases; color-filled Bonnards; and works by Braque, Picasso, Matisse, and Klee. American works are equally celebrated, including examples by Homer, Eakins, Ryder; the American Impressionists; modernists O'Keeffe, Marin, and Dove; and such mid-century masters such as Mark Rothko, Jacob Lawrence and Richard Diebenkorn.
