“Can we be like drops of water falling on the stone
Splashing, breaking, disbursing in air, weaker than the stone by far but be aware
That as time goes by the rock will wear away."

Relay for Life

Hi everyone! I am walking in the Relay for Life Cancer walk in Clyde on July 17th and was wondering if anyone would like to contribute toward the cause. The event is taking place at the end of Orchard Street and I am very excited to be able to participate. Nana has the hook ups to purchase luminary candles in remebrance of a friend /loved one. They may be purchased for $5. It is happening on the 17th so if you are interested i would appreciate hearing from you by then. Thanks so much for anything! Love to all!

Two more losses to cancer...

I watched her documentary- it was difficult- she was courageous but unfortunately we lost another one to cancer- hopefully soon we can find a cure. We can't keep losing our loved ones at such young ages.

And so it begins again...

pool (175k image)

I called Kay today- I could hear Delaney in the pool- only 70 degrees and swimming. A couple weeks back I called and she was in the pool and it was still freezing- this little fish just needs to be in the water!

The downfalls of the internet...

cookbook (55k image)

A lot of people are dishonest, hurtful and can't be trusted. As proof in this ad- several companies took our cookbook off our page and they are selling it. That means those people go to our site- what else can they steal? So I took down birthdays as I do not want people to have that information. I know it makes it a little more boring but I think it is safer. Makes you wonder if you should be doing this at all?
Edited:Link back up and password protected. All sites I found have been removed from the web- think the threat of legal action for stealing might have worked. I'm sure it's still out there but good lesson for all of us. Erin- can you password protect Kris's fitness book?

And Guess Who Graduated Today?

IMG_9721 (64k image)

That's right... she's dancing for joy because she had her graduation this morning at 10 a.m. My mom tried to take pictures, but something happened to her camera and the card didn't record them. They all went out to lunch today to celebrate! Congrats little one! This is one big step that you should be proud of!

addie (88k image)

This is Addison (a.k.a. Addie), my parents new kitty. They are very excited and happy to have another little feline in the house (can you believe it?). They really missed having a cat, so they adopted Addie yesterday and they said she is the sweetest girl. Congratulations! I can't wait to meet her.

She's practicing wearing purple...

diveinpurple (126k image)
"When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple."

26 things again...

26thingsagain (17k image)

Farley wants to do "26 things" again. Now that summer is here, hopefully people will have more time and join in. To make it a little easier- I am altering the game and making a list of 12- so go shoot a dozen pics! Then remember to come back and post (or mail to me) and we can compare pictures- that's the fun of it.
Here is the list:
turn, label, wheels, silence, mess, always,
graffiti, juicy, logo, on the horizon, yawn, bump

If you want to see info/pictures about/on your family, kids, pets- you either have to post or send me info. Many people not on here lately and we want to know "WHAT'S UP?"
Edited:Thanks to those who send info and pictures- we all love to see the kids and know what's happening in their lives.

Been so busy but got the gardens in...

esgarden (77k image)

I cannot tell you how busy I’ve been lately, and it’s been rather difficult to find time for anything but I did manage to get in my two square foot gardens (above-ground, sized 4′x4′) over the last two weekends (while battling the constant rain here, which David and got caught in one day). I was going to wait this year, because we don’t have the time/money to install a fence around it (due to the naughty pooch), but I found a cheap way to make a little cover out of chicken wire to keep Brenner out. Everything I’ve been doing is straight out of the All New Square Foot Gardening book by Mel Bartholomew. Last weekend I got in the first garden, using pre-started plants from Lowe's. It was a little too late to do peppers and tomatoes from seed. I would have liked to make this the “salsa” garden, but I had plants that needed to get in the ground and we didn’t have the second garden frame complete yet. The only seeds sowed were the beans seeds, which are already sprouting, and one of the squares of basil (the other I bought). My tomatoes in the garden were supposed to include a cherry tomato, but by accident I put those back, so I had to buy some for the other garden (I now have extra tomatoes that need to go in pots… this was not how I planned this and I will have way too many tomatoes if they all do well).I have never grown lettuce, cukes, beets, or spaghetti squash but figured that I would give it a whirl. I’ve heard that cilantro does horrible here, but thought I’d still try for David’s sake (he cooks a lot with it and I use it in salsa). I also think I may have some trouble with the squash because they take up so much room, but I figure I’ll see this year and learn. So far everything is doing well and I should know soon how the seeds go. We are super excited about this, especially since everything that vines we are growing up on trellis’ (yes, even the cantaloupe). I have a little area behind these gardens where I planted two of the extra cantaloupe plants, and I bought some pumpkin and gourd mixed that will go there too (also to be grown on a trellis). Yesterday we also bought and cut some re-mesh (concrete reinforcing wire) to make some square tomato cages and a trellis from… we still need to get more, but they seem much sturdier (and cheaper) than what I’ve seen on the market. I’ll have to take a picture soon.

Next year, if we get the picket fence in, I’ll keep the veggies in the garden and hang some window boxes on the fence for the herbs. I’ll also move the compost pile to something a little more practical inside the fenced area (right now I’m just using a big trash can and the process is a little too slow, although I used some anyway.
Edited:Took this post off Erin's page- thought it was interesting!

My summer reading list...

summerreads (76k image)

Can't make up my mind so I'll try to read them all. Started all but "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society." Have to bring a student to the hospital on Friday for a procedure- will be there awhile and plan to make a dent in "The Hour I First Believed".
What are you reading?

That's life...

squirreleater (109k image)

Kay loves to feed the birds- the squirrels love to eat the food...pretty smart little buggers don't you think?

Started my new exercise program- hey, I think there are muscles under there- or something sure is sore! I also got new shoes for my walking- I have been doing that about a month- have now added some hills...how did this happen that I am so differently shaped then when I was young?

Nana & Poppy, Kay & Delaney are home from North Carolina and Farley is coming home today...good times in NC!

What's up with you?
