Happy Birthday Linda...

lookingood (188k image)
“And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.”

Today she is 55, she doesn't look it or act like it (still runs circles around me!) Let's all wish her a Happy Birthday. We are going out to lunch with her sister today so early morning or evening calls are better.

Here are my glasses...

glasses (97k image)

Friday I was running errands, I went to order shirts for our school, grabbed the shirts in the car and was walking into the printer. I heard something hit the ground, I looked around and saw nothing. I looked again on the way out. This morning I realized I could not find my glasses, after retracing my steps it hit me that what fell was my glasses. We went to the store and found them on the window sill looking like this- run over by a car.
I must say... the stupid stuff continues! First the garage door, the hot tub, the hail damage, my glasses.
ENOUGH ALREADY! Just when you get caught up-bam, I have to go get new glasses so I can see.

Erin Update...

david-shower (104k image)

This week has been an eventful one. David and I both drove from his house to my house to pack some boxes and make some repairs. First, we got the siding on our cars done. It was messy, but our cars look so much better. Also, the electricians and the heating/cooling people came and I have AC again!!! It's been so much better. The next job was the soap dish in the tub. Thanks to the crappy job that someone did putting it in, I leaned on it and it fell off. We tried to put it back on, but David didn't hold it long enough and it smashed in the tub. Luckily we were able to get another one (although it's not the baby blue of the old one). This time David did the whole duct tape trick... yes, getto, but it works until it dries.

And now, I continue to pack and have been preparing for a yard sale (Friday & Saturday). It's been a lot of work but hopefully it will help me pay for my moving truck. So I have been so busy... I know many of you have called and haven't gotten me. I'm so sorry. I've just been swamped and will try to return the calls as soon as possible.

Dads Poem...

daddyspoem (156k image)

Just got this poem from a friend and thought that some of you might like and apreciate it alot
Her hair was up in a pony tail, her favorite dress tied with a bow.
Today was Daddy's Day at school, and she couldn't wait to go.
But her mommy tried to tell her, that she probably should stay home.
Why the kids might not understand,if she went to school alone.
But she was not afraid; she knew just what to say.
What to tell her classmates of why he wasn't there today.
But still her mother worried, for her to face this day alone.
And that was why once again, she tried to keep her daughter home.
But the little girl went to school eager to tell them all.
About a dad she never sees; a dad who never calls.
There were daddies along the wall in back, for everyone to meet.
Children squirming impatiently, anxious in their seats
One by one the teacher called a student from the class.
To introduce their daddy, as seconds slowly passed.
At last the teacher called her name, every child turned to stare.
Each of them was searching, for a man who wasn't there.
Where's her daddy at? she heard a boy call out.
She probably doesn't have one, another student dared to shout.
And from somewhere near the back, she heard a daddy say,
Looks like another deadbeat dad, too busy to waste his day.
The words did not offend her, as she smiled up at her Mom.
And looked back at her teacher, who told her to go on.
And with hands behind her back, slowly she began to speak.
And out from the mouth of a child, came words incredibly unique.
My Daddy couldn't be here, because he lives so far away.
But I know he wishes he could be, since this is such a special day.
And though you cannot meet him, I wanted you to know.
All about my daddy, and how much he loves me so.
He loved to tell me stories, he taught me to ride my bike.
He surprised me with pink roses, and taught me to fly a kite.
We used to share fudge sundaes, and ice cream in a cone.
And though you cannot see him. I'm not standing here alone.
Cause my daddy's always with me, even though we are apart
I know because he told me, he'll forever be in my heart.
With that, her little hand reached up, and lay across her chest.
Feeling her own heartbeat, beneath her favorite dress.
And from somewhere here in the crowd of dads, her mother stood in tears.
Proudly watching her daughter, who was wise beyond her years.
For she stood up for the love of a man not in her life.
Doing what was best for her, doing what was right.
And when she dropped her hand back down, staring straight into the crowd.
She finished with a voice so soft, but its message clear and loud.
I love my daddy very much, he's my shining star.
And if he could, he'd be here, but heaven's just too far
You see he was a firefighter and died just this past year
When airplanes hit the towers and taught Americans to fear.
But sometimes when I close my eyes, it's like he never went away.
And then she closed her eyes, and she saw him there that day.
And to her mothers amazement, she witnessed with surprise
A room full of daddies and children, all starting to close their eyes.
Who knows what they saw before them, who knows what they felt inside.
Perhaps for merely a second, they saw him at her side.
I know you're with me Daddy, to the silence she called out.
And what happened next made believers, of those once filled with doubt.
Not one in that room could explain it, for each of their eyes had been closed.
But there on the desk beside her, was a fragrant long-stemmed pink rose.
And a child was blessed, if only for a moment, by the love of her shining star.
And given the gift of believing, that heaven is never too far.
They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them,
a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them.

This poem made me cry! i hope people like it as much as i did i thought it kind of fit in with our trip to New York City, with the twin towers and all!

love you all,
Sarah

Her face...

near-heaven (124k image)
"A face.
You know the kind.
Round cheeks that rise to meet.
A perfect nose.
A chin without a blemish.
Forehead complimenting eyes,
deep set, never staring
and yet not vacant
All of it. All of it
converging on a mouth
too perfect to be true,
yet true as truth is.

Sometimes just a face,
fresh and scrubbed
encircled by a halo of cascading hair.
A head, a face indented in a head.
The beauty of it passing
breaks your heart, stops your breath,
kills your memory of all faces.
You see it once and don't forget."

Coming Soon...

I am adding a new sidebar item...scrapbook pages. I will put the pages we make for different scrapbooks so people can see them. Share if you make pages. Some won't be available right away (NYC Trip- gift for Nana but will display after we give it to her) and some will have lots (Erin- she has been doing this awhile). I think it is a good way to remember and a nice place to display pages which took time, money and lots of love.

Edited: Several links have been added- working on others...Enjoy!

Kelsie's page...

carzyhairsm (234k image)
“Life is an endless struggle full of frustrations and challenges,
but eventually you find a hair stylist you like.”

Here is the "Crazy Hair" page for Kelsie. The above quote is on the left side tag.

The journaling states...
"You were born with a full head of hair and it has a mind of its own.
Every time Poppy would visit you, he would say,”Look at that crazy hair”
Eventually it shortened to, “Here comes Crazy Hair!”
The name stuck and your hair has lived up to its reputation.
Your mom tries to put it up in pony-tails, you take it down.
She brushes it; you go outside and let the wind blow it around.
Most of the time, it just flies free.
You and your crazy hair!"

The Lady's Coleslaw...

1/2 bell pepper, chopped
1 green onion, chopped
1/2 large carrot, chopped
1/8 cup chopped fresh parsley leaves
1/2 cabbage head
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon seasoning salt (recommended: Jane's Krazy Mixed-up salt)
1/4 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon lemon-pepper seasoning
1 tablespoon white vinegar

Using a food processor, gently process the bell pepper, onion, carrot, and parsley, being careful not to over process. Cut 1/2 of the cabbage into chunks and place in the food processor and process lightly, making sure the cabbage doesn't become mushy. Slice the remaining cabbage thinly. Mix the cabbage together with the processed vegetables. In a separate bowl, mix the remaining ingredients together and allow to stand for a few minutes. Combine the mayonnaise mixture with the vegetables and toss. Chill for 1 hour.

This is a receipe from Paula Dean...we had Linda's sister & husband and the boys for dinner Sunday. We made this coleslaw and it was fantastic (I would cut down the sugar a little). Ralph brought homegrown sweet corn, the boys a turkey, we barbecued a beef roast and had homegrown tomatoes plus cooked potatoes and carrots- top it off with fresh ice tea and lemonade -what a feast!

Well here is a new page for Delaney. There is one picture missing on the left side cause she has a cool pair of shades coming from California with Katie & Ali. We will take a picture and put it up here.
I am now working on a "series" for Kelsie. It is called..."What's my name?" I am currently working on "Crazy Hair" but will include Peanuts, Bibble, Fiona Grace and Kelsieroni. This gives me an opportunity to include pictures of those who gave the names. Input is welcome. People jumping into this hobby is welcome. Erin is right- after you do a couple it gets easier, your confidence grows and I find it relaxing and fun. I look forward to playing with the pictures and pages and remembering the story they tell.

Children need to play...

play (170k image)

Doctors may soon have a prescription for health that even kids will like: more playtime. They say the research may lead to new guidelines saying youngsters between ages 5 and 16 need to be active up to 1½ hours a day. The researchers said physical activity does not demand intense exercise, such as playing soccer or tennis. There is a value to five- and 10-minute bouts of activity, where kids will run for a little while and then stop.

Every place is the center of the world."

“Winning is great, sure, but if you are really going to do something in life, the secret is learning how to lose. Nobody goes undefeated all the time. If you can pick up after a crushing defeat, and go on to win again, you are going to be a champion someday.”

Last night Kam's team won again. They play tonight for the championship. They play the team the beat last night so hopefully they will take it all.

Southwestern Turkey Burgers

Serves 4; Prep time: 15 minutes; Total time: 25 minutes

1 1/2 pounds ground dark meat turkey (93% lean)
1 jalapeño chile, minced (ribs and seeds removed for less heat, if desired)
2 ounces grated Monterey Jack cheese (about 1/2 cup)
1/4 cup plain dried breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
Coarse salt and ground pepper
Vegetable oil, for grates
4 hamburger buns, split horizontally
Desired toppings (see below)
1. Heat grill to medium-high. In a medium bowl, place turkey, jalapeño, cheese, breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon coarse salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Mix very gently with a fork to combine, being careful not to overwork meat (which would make burgers dense).

2. Gently form meat into 4 equal-size patties, 4 inches in diameter and 1 inch thick. Press thumb in the center of each patty to make an indentation approximately 1/2-inch deep (this helps keep burgers flat during grilling).

3. Moisten a folded paper towel with oil; grasp with tongs and rub over grates. Season burgers with salt and pepper; grill until cooked throughout, 5 to 8 minutes per side. Serve on buns (toasted on grill, if you like), with desired toppings.

All My Life's A Circle...

princesscircle (155k image)
"All my life's a circle; Sunrise and sundown;
Moon rolls thru the nighttime; Till the daybreak comes around.
All my life's a circle; But I can't tell you why;
Season's spinning round again; The years keep rollin' by.

It seems like I've been here before; I can't remember when;
But I have this funny feeling; That we'll all be together again.
No straight lines make up my life; And all my roads have bends;
There's no clear-cut beginnings; And so far no dead-ends."

My Green Thumb

IMG_4683 (136k image)

My garden update: I have been happily eating ripe cherry tomatoes for a week now. The rugular tomatoes are huge and turning red. Even the green ones are yummy fried up for eggs benedict (somethign we tried in New Orleans)! My basil looks poor, but tastes yummy with the cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzerella, and Pensy's 4-S salt. I have been having a ball and eating great! Everything always tastes better when you grow it yourself! My jalapenos are ready too, so I will be having my salsa very soon! I can't wait!

Web Page update...

Well it's up with the help of Erin & Beth (Thank you) but the code is very different which means some things will work differently (more from setup/design than function point of view).
Pictures can now be 560 pixels (bigger than before). There is no design in front of pop-up pictures, highlights only (but pops with red).
Notice the site is red instead of purple (moved from a tribute from Poppy to Nana).
For those who tagged picture uploads with a center tag- does not work, please don't use or it changes the paragraph and makes it hard to read. I'll let you know if we find the glitch.
There is a new header and new rotating pictures. I hope you enjoy!

No AC... Lucky Me... I'm Dying Here!!!

tree-down (151k image)

Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. I wake up to this truck on my front lawn. They work for the electric company and cut down branches that land on electrical lines. We had storms and they were having problems. Well, I never had any issues from the storm... until they showed up. I was on my computer and all of a sudden I heard a loud screetching noise (it was my surge protector). I couldn't figure out what it was. Then I noticed I lost my connection to the internet. Then I went in the bedroom and noticed my ceiling fan was off and my clock was out. They knocked out my power and my cable in one swoop! They sent a power surge through the house and killed my $130 surge protector and my central air unit. They called Duke Power and got them over here and it was fixed in a couple of hours. I called Time Warner and was told they would be here within 24 hours.... yeah right! I waited and they never called, never showed. I called them back and they said my appointment was for today (but they never told me). And of cource you can see that I am posting, so we're all good in that department. But, I am sweating bullets here. If anyone has lived in the south, you know how hot it is. Now imagine no AC. Forecasters are calling for a high of 98 degrees today, but expect it to feel more like 105, the National Weather Service says. My landlord got his AC guy over here and he told him to call an electrician. He made me call Duke Power for a claim (I still don't know why I had to do it). They should be here by tomorrow at the latest and will hopefully give me some money. But I still do not know when my landlord is going to fix it and if he's going to expect me to take care of it... if so, bye-bye! Not going to happen.

In the meantime, I went to the store and bought an oscillating fan for $13. It feel so great to have the hot air blowing on you! Just kidding... well, sort of. Kitty is dying from the heat and I just feel so bad. I would never subject her to this kind of heat. Hell, I put the AC on for her when I got to Richmond to make sure she is comfortable.

I also showed my apartment this weekend to a couple with kids that really wanted it. Keep your fingers crossed that they get approved so that I can move. In the meantime, I have been packing and cleaning... just in case. I am supposed to go home this weekend for my cousin's wedding, but due to all this stuff going on at once I may not be able to.

I gotta tell ya, when it rains, it pours.

The clouds have parted...

clouds (101k image)

“A cloud does not know why it moves in just such a direction and at such a speed...It feels an impulsion...this is the place to go now. But the sky knows the reasons and the patterns behind all clouds, and you will know, too, when you lift yourself high enough to see beyond horizons.”

Well, I see the light at the end of the storm! The transition has been made with relatively little problem. We are unable to put up old archives but we have a site that appears to be working. Small change- photos can only be 530 in width now. I put all the old author codes in, let me know if you have problems siging in and anyone (kids) who want their own password can be set-up. And last, this will give us almost 5 times more space at almost 1/3 the cost. The bill was $165.00 but will last us 2 years (donations welcome).
I hope you continue to enjoy our family web page.
