Ode to my Hometown Church

n723069011_1074395_1779 (51k image)

As a baby, I was baptized here, in front of my family, in front of God.

Here is where I put on the prettiest white dress I had known and took my first communion with the children I grew up with.

Across the street, where my mother had gone to school, the smell of evergreen filled the hall as we sold crafts for the Bizarre and enjoyed meatball sandwiches.

This is where I walked proud behind my sister as she delicately carried the baby Jesus to the manger; and slept on my mother’s shoulder as my father sang Christmas midnight mass.

I’ve watched many aunts, uncles and friends married here, cried as cousins were baptized and watched as they waved to me, at their first communion.

I’ve sang out my heart
up high in the rafters
and watched as my small cousins smiled
and excitably waved from the pews below.

This is where I’ve mourned.

had hope...
and prayed for strength.

I’ve lit candles in memory of those lost.

Whether I believe in everything preached here, or not,
I believe in the roots.

Family, community and faith.

This is my hometown church.

Sad news...Randy Pausch died today.

080725-pausch-vmed-7a.widec (19k image)
“Cancer didn’t change me at all,'’ he said. “I know lots of people talk about the life revelation. I didn’t have that. I always thought every day was a gift, but now I am looking for where to send the thank you note.'’

Pausch was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in August, 2006; at the time, he and his wife had a 4-year-old, a 2-year-old and a 3-month-old baby. Pancreatic cancer has a 4% 5-year survival rate, and Randy lasted two years through sheer will and perseverance and willingness to try any treatment possible.Hearing of Randy Pausch’s death this morning made my heart sink. The world needs more people with attitudes like his. It is a loss for mankind.

Proud Owners...

homeowners (137k image)

Erin & David are the proud owners of a new house- welcome to endless upkeep, no money and finally having a place to call home that is ALL yours (and the banks)! Keep us updated on the progress. When Linda & I got 7320 NW Shelter- I took pictures as is and then every project I took updates and put all the bills and pictures in a notebook so we can see the difference and know the improvement dollars. Nice to see the changes. Enjoy the journey...

Soccer Champ...

Last night was Delaney's last soccer game- they played their parents. Delaney got her trophy and as a special bonus- Nana got to watch her play. Lala is sad because she was hoping to see her play next Thursday when she gets in... I guess I'll have to get a private viewing of her skills. Way to go Delaney!

spiderweb (160k image)

Well we have been busy too- finished all closets this weekend (20 + bags to Good Will today)
Working on the CD's- this will take sometime but Christmas is almost done!
Now- we start the bathroom. Ripping up carpet- repainting ceiling (see if we can get the paint to stick) and then out comes the vanity and stool. When it gets done it will be time for the den. I hope to have the CD's done which remove two CD shelves from the room- already removed all scrap booking stuff so we are getting her done! After all- school starts in 3 weeks.

We are getting F.A.T...

foodcloset1 (135k image)

Every day take 10 minutes and “push your chair out and stand up.” Then file, act and trash, or FAT, as it’s called in organizer lingo. File what needs to be filed, act on the things I need to act upon and trash what needs to be trashed.
And so we are...throughout the whole house. I will add- bins are my new best friends!

Here we have the food closet- organized.

Then the laundry room- out went the 48" rack (went to the garage) so we can move and use the room- then we cleaned the shelves and put in shoe racks.

Then the garage! We finished painting the walls, put up the trim and base board, we put the 48" rack along the wall, added a 36" cabinet for appliances, got more bins and put a a curtain. We added a shelf under the stairs, added another shoe rack and hung the broom, mop and squeegee.

Moving on to the hallway closet. It has become the home of my scrapbook materials (way too much).

Now I am working on the Cd's. They take up 2 walls in my too small den so I came up with a new solution. Place them in cd bins. Each box will hold 160 Cd's in paper sleeves (they are on order) and then I will store them in the bottom of a closet. We are going to rip out the carpet and put in a wood floor, build in a counter top desk and book shelf. Still working on the design. We want it to fit both Linda and I at the same time.

Before we rip out the den we want to finish the bathroom with a new vanity and mirror, a new toilet and a new floor (not sure on this yet).

This is how I spent my summer vacation- teaching 2 days a week to pay for it and the other days working it.

The brick oven...

brickovenredo (262k image)

Once the STOETZEL's restaurant and bakery (1886-87), the brick oven has been restored and is the reason behind the name. Poppy is redoing the building, keeping the historic qualities like the tin tile ceiling, the wall design, the bar, the old cold storage, right down to the door knobs. As the walls and floors and doors get worked on, we can't wait to see Poppy's Place open so we can toast the wonderful occasion!

Bill due NOW...

sad (122k image)

I LOVE it when people go home for parties and visits- there are lots of photos afterward which makes posting fun. The bill is due ($150.00) now. DO we keep it or let it go... Kelsie is feeling sad already, let's cheer her up and keep it going. Mail your check today, every little bit helps so if all you can send is $5-10, it is all appreciated. Thanks!
Edited:Thanks to those who sent a check- every little bit helps and it keeps the page up. Just as a reminder, this is for two years so next year we don't have to worry!

Well Sunday Kam's team beat Newark so they played last night but lost. It is double elimination so they will play again tomorrow. He is currently playing in the "All-Stars" and has hit well, pitched well and played great! Thanks Kay for sending the pictures so we can all enjoy seeing him play ball! Good luck Kameron!
Edited:Kameron's team won-6 to 0. He pitched the first 3 innings and did fantastic. Congratulations!
