Sarah is an offical Keuka College Freshman

l_cf7220a600a9c3c7dc4e6eca72a4f71d (21k image)

We moved Sarah into her dorm today at Keuka College. She is in the all woman's dorm Saunders Hall Room 203. They receive mail at the Keuka Park Post Office. Her address is Sarah Bailey, Post Office Box 944, Keuka Park, NY 14478. She does has a phone but we need to get her a phone yet and not sure what the number is and her cell is 315-719-3687.

Other than that Katie is working a new job that she loves at Olympia Sports. Started soccer practive for Varisty team with practice two times a day. And Geneva is making National television this week as Extreme Home Makeover is doing a house that is about 5 blocks away from me so have been very exciting week! Taking lots of pictures and the whole process is unbelievable. Have seen alot. Watched the demolition today that was amazing and even ran into to Clark there. Think I possible may have made it as they do film the crowd and I was pretty close so we shall see. Saving all the newspapers as they are packed this week with all the excitement and Ty what a hunk! Hmmmmmm got some really close shots of him Monday as they were filming downtown and could have pinched him if I wanted to and got shy. Imagine that......

Carpets were installed Yesterday!

2780156046_9cd06312e1 (99k image)

You can’t believe what a difference it makes to have the carpets down and the walls painted. Here’s a quiz… what color are those walls? Let’s see what you all say and then I’ll explain.

We still have to paint all the white trim and doors, but the Master and Guest room are 95% finished. We have to add another coat of paint to the Master ceiling, but we ran into some issues with it so it may have to wait (nothing major, just areas where the spackle kinda peeled as we painted and we need to figure out how to fix - and yes, we primed everything). We also need to figure out how to repair the ceiling where the previous owners had an electrical socket and cable in the ceiling… Might be nice to watch the flat screen while laying down and looking up at the ceiling, but not really what I had planned.

Right now these two rooms are the only two getting new carpet. The Design Studio is keeping it’s carpet because it’s not too bad, and David wants hardwoods in his game room so for now we ripped out the old (it looked like someone was murdered on that carpet), and we have left the exposed plyboards… we’ll get to it all in good time. We also purchased the floating wood floor for the living room, so that’s our next project.

Back to the carpet… we did a little shopping around and found that Home Depot was the winner. Lowes had the same carpet for like $3.60 a square foot (or a carpet very similar) and their installation was $250. Home Depot has a sale cube and we found ours for like $1.60 a sq. foot with $199 installation. Not too shabby and the guys did a great job. I love it… I think I’ll sleep on it because it’s so soft.

Michael Phelps set out before the Beijing Games with the most audacious goal in the history of the modern Olympics, to win eight gold medals at a single Games.
He did it. And more. He elevated himself, his family, his team and his country. He made people around the United States - indeed, around the world - pay attention to his sport and to the way an American not only invites challenge but deals with pressure and expectation.

716_328510_600_USWNTBS0809084628 (199k image)

After an embarrasing loss to norway in the opening match of the group stages the US womens national soccer team has bounced back. Beating Japan 1-0 and Defeating new zealand 4-0 today. The US needed a 4 goal diffrential with Norway but after norway lost to Japan today 4-1 the US secured the group and got out of playing a very tough brazialian team in the quarter finals..Although the games to start very early..ive been getting up at 5 am and 745 am to watch the games and they are very well played matches so if you get up and cant find anything to watch flip on the channel these girls are role models to all and they are some good freaking soccer players. They face Canada on august 15 at 6 am i will be at the beach but i will be up routing on the red white and blue. GO USA

Garden Treasures!

dilly (72k image)

I'm harvesting so much out of my garden that I can't eat it all! My solution, I learned to can. My first attempt at canning was 7 pint jars of dilly beans! Hopefully they'll turn out well, I just did a bunch of online research. I found my canning pot at a yard sale for $3. What a steal! Did you also know that canning salt is the same as Kosher salt? It just means that there is no iodine in it.

I also made 4 loaves of Zucchini bread from just one overgrown Zucchini. I also found out that most everyone love it and it's easy to give away!

Leaf Castings - thought I would share

Downspout (47k image)Remember those cool leaf casting my mom gave a Christmas a few years ago? Well, they have many uses and I came across this site: go here. I loved them when my mom made them and now I want to make some more myself (of course, this will be in the Fall after some of the house stuff settles). My favorites are the gutter downspash catchers and the birdbath. They just have so many cool applications, so I thought I would share so people could get ideas and see their uses. Thanks for such a cool gift mom! What is everyone doing with theirs? Decoration? Bird Feeders? Just curious.

This is what home ownership looks like...

2731901675_328a9a2c33 (82k image)

Yes, it’s messy AND dirty! We spent all day Saturday scraping ceilings. So far we have the guest bath, master bedroom, my design studio, and 1/4 of the guest room done. We had planned to finish the upstairs Sunday, but instead decided to weed out the jungle that lived in our front and back yards. David mowed the lawn while I raked all the sticks, debris, and old wood chips from the back lawn. After David mowed, he got the hedge trimmer and bushwacked the trees and fauna. I had the clippers and cut our branches from the trees to let in more light in the back, and weeded out some of the unessential plants. I feel bad because I think we removed a lot of rose bushes, but these things were massive and messy and were not kept up so they had to go. Maybe they will come back next year and will be more manageable. I also clipped our hydrangea bush (that I love) and the poor thing looks bare, but it had to be done. We have a pile of sticks and branches the size of my car ready to be picked up by sanitation this week. We were exhausted! We still are not finished. David still has to trim the tops of the evergreen/cypress trees near the garage (these poor trees were so overgrown that they looked dead after he trimmed… hope they come back). We also need to lay mulch and designate where to put some additional landscaping with flowers and such. The little brick border also needs to go and I want to find some natural twig borders to outline the gardens. It will all come in time.

A BIG Thank You...

lindathankyou (154k image)

Well Linda and I made it home (small delay) but safe and sound.
We wish to extend a big thank you to all for the birthday dinners, cakes, cards, hugs & kisses, gifts and love. Linda had a great birthday and we had a nice visit home.
We were glad to see (almost) everyone.
Though it was quick, nothing like family love to see you through a new year (I start school today for kindergarten screening and full time Thursday). Seems everything is quick these days, back to school, vacation, summer...
We arrived back to HOT weather...today...
