Do Blogs die?

wastebasket (164k image)

Lately it seems as no one posts any more. Not just here but the Culvers died a year ago, Erin's hasn't seen much action and Beth's hasn't either. Are we all so busy to just check in, nothing is happening worth sharing or this mode of communication just fades away in time? Even one of my famous blogs seems to have disappeared- Noah Grey- hasn't been on since his partner died in February. Left and hasn't come back- his blog was his livelihood (sold his photos on line). I guess all things change.

Womens World Cup 2007

333_321434_md_USMNT0623071486 (486k image)

Not sure if alot of yall have been following the 2007 womens world cup..but if u havent the womens team finished 3rd defeating norway in the bronze game. im sure alot of u have heard about the craziness that has been going on with us soccer and the team. the coach switched out the number one goal keeper in the semi final and played the old goalie brianna scurry[ sure some of you have herad of her] and the recent keeper was very upset and took it out on the coach and brianna. well i was asked as a soccer player wut i thought about the goalie change. u dont take out a goalie who hasnt really played to much and bring in a new one. and expect her to be able to play agaisnt a very good chinese team. but things happen for a reason and now they will focus on the olypics in 2008

Well now for my team we have just one this past weekend i played very well and so did my team. we have 1-1-1 which seems bad but our divisoin is so tough that we are actually tied with 4 other teams for second. well im off to washington dc this weekend[ firday through monday] and its going to be tough..wish me luck and i will let everyone knows how it goes.

Make me smile...

laneysmile (173k image)
"A smile costs nothing but gives much. It enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give. It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None is so rich or mighty that he cannot get along without it and none is so poor that he cannot be made rich by it. Yet a smile cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is of no value to anyone until it is given away. Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Give them one of yours, as none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give."

I received a phone call today from this little beauty. She called to thank me for a package I sent to her. It included a scrapbook page. I asked her if she liked it and she said, "I loved it!" I needed that today. In this crazy world it's nice to hear a little voice tell you they love you. Thanks Delaney.

Ralph update...

Ralpie (79k image)

Went to the doctors on Tuesday- Chemo was keeping the cancer from spreading but due to the deterioration of his health, it has been halted. The doctor ordered in Hospice. The put him on oxygen (scary for a heavy smoker) but he fell yesterday while hospice was there and has dementia and today his oxygen level dipped into the 60's (should be in the 90's) so the placed him in a nursing home. Linda and I went up tonight and it sucks- smells, inattentive staff and they served hot dogs and cheese curls for dinner- what kind of dinner is that. We are hoping Joann will put in for the house (3 people fighting for the farm), get her moved and then move Ralph to Kansas City into a nicer place. This is all so sad and tough on Joann and Linda. Say some prayers- we can use them.

Happy Autumn...

autumn (190k image)
"Everyone must take time to sit and watch the leaves turn."

September brings the last day of summer and the first day of fall. On the equinox, the sun rises directly in the east and sets directly in the west.
A Reminder: Don't forget to put fresh batteries in your smoke detectors on the first day of fall!

Just tired...

tiredoh (19k image)

Between the new job (10x busier), the fall landscaping and clean up and helping with Linda's family- I'm just tired! I did get photo disks, music disks, pictures scanned and other items done tonight and will get them all in the mail tomorrow- thanks for the patience.

What we can all learn...

under (141k image)
"The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own. No apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on, or blame. The gift of life is yours; it is an amazing journey; and you alone are responsible for the quality of it."

A full days work...

SUndaychores (178k image)

Well we started planting the hillside. The temperature dropped into the 70's so we can get some work done. You might remember we had the back of the barn dug out. We put in 3 Crape Myrtle trees, a grass and planted the berm with lilies. I still have 1 more grass to move, 3 spireas and a new tree but ran out of steam. We rented an auger to help with the holes because the soil has a lot of clay and it was no help at all- back to the shovel. We also moved some plants around the front sit area. Look how little the plants were when we moved in. This area didn't even exist. We added a knockout rose today (moved grass to back hill). This is the area where the "Peace Pole" will go. Have to order it soon. More digging. I know this should keep you in shape but it tires me out!

Labor Day 2007...

yum (133k image)
"As a child my family's menu consisted of two choices: take it or leave it."

And when the choice is this- we take it!
I've added some pictures to Flicker from Labor Day. They are not all up, just a few to capture the day. Enjoy!

Remembering Matthew...

memoryMLC (91k image)

"Sweet child whom we never really got to know,
It’s hard for us to let you go.
We waited and we wanted you.
We had so many dreams for you.

We think of smiles we'll never see.
We think of events that will never be.
There will be no first steps and no first teeth.
There is only a void and our own grief.

It’s hard to understand why our baby, died.
We feel so numb right now, many tears we’ve cried.
We have so many questions and no answers seem to come.
We tried so hard to save you; nothing could be done.

God, we stand before you broken-hearted and
ask you to heal these lives that must be parted
from this little one we can no longer hold,
who will always be a part of us, even when we're old.

God, take this child in your loving arms. No more can he suffer any harm.
Bless him always and bless us too. Be with us and help us to make it through."

Walking the Black Dog...

blackdog (142k image)

(I thought this picture was so cute- Kay said Buffett has being doing this since she was a puppy).
One of the byproducts of our sedentary & isolated contemporary life is the growing epidemic of depression.
Over 120 million people worldwide are affected by the black dog of depression, as Sir Winston Churchill described it.
These are good lifestyle changes that will enhance anyone’s life, depressed or not, and most don’t cost a thing!

"You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You're on your own.
And you know what you know.
And you are the guy
Who'll decide where you go."

EDITED: Not the first day of school for Kameron but for Sue!
