Kelsie was on the phone talking to Nana. She told her that there we prints on their car that morning. Nana asked her what she thought it might have been? Kelsie answered..."I think it might have been a polar bear!" So watch out Clyde- there might be a polar bear on the lose.

Women over 40...

over40 (168k image)

In case you missed it on 60 Minutes, this is what Andy Rooney thinks about women over 40:

As I grow in age, I value women over 40 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why:

A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night and ask, 'What are you thinking?' She doesn't care what you think.
If a woman over 40 doesn't want to watch the game, she doesn't sit around whining about it. She does something she wants to do, and it's usually more interesting.

Women over 40 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won't hesitate to shoot you if they think they can get away with it.

Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it's like to be unappreciated. Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over 40. Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 40 is far sexier than her younger counterpart.

Older women are forthright and honest. They'll tell you right off if you are a jerk or if you are acting like one.
You don't ever have to wonder where you stand with her.
Yes, we praise women over 40 for a multitude of reasons. Unfortunately, it's not reciprocal.
For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed, hot woman over 40, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year old waitress.. Ladies, I apologize.

For all those men who say, 'Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?', here's an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage. Why? Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire pig just to get a little sausage!

Andy Rooney is a really smart guy!

What Nana wants for her birthday...

12 (29k image)
FACTS
Every week there are:
* 5,812,037 birthdays
* 42,884 weddings
* 79,623 births
* Birthdays are the #1 reason people celebrate
* There are millions of other gift-giving/receiving occasions every year, such as bat and bar mitzvahs, graduations, funerals, retirements, and debutante balls.
* Every year, nearly 140 million people purchase and/or receive a gift card with an average value of $59.
* $747 is the average amount spent annually on holiday gifts.

TAKE ACTION TODAY

* Select a charity, cause, or purpose you wish to support.
* Decide which holiday or occasion for which you would like your friends and family to make a donation instead of giving you a gift.
* Send a free email invitation.
* Provide your friends and family with the proper charity information to make their giving easier— website, phone number, or address.
* If there is not a specific reason for having a party, make one up. Simply have guests bring a food dish or beverage along with money for your charity of choice or for someone in need.

YOU MATTER

If everyone gives up their birthday gifts this year, $3 billion dollars or more can be donated to worthy causes or needy people. Friends and family donating money in your name can be much more rewarding than getting material gifts. Giving is a lot more gratifying than receiving, no matter the occasion.

Do nothing...

friendship (125k image)

Doing nothing, in the true sense of the word, can be overwhelming if you attempt to do too much nothing at once. Do small nothings at first. Focus on 5-10 minutes at a time, and start your practice sessions in a safe place — at home, not at work or in a busy public place. You may also not be ready to do nothing in the middle of nature, so do it in your bedroom or living room. Find a time and place where there are not many distractions, not much noise, not a lot of people to bother you.

Shut off all distractions — TV, computer, cell phones, regular phones, Blackberries, and the like. Doing nothing is hard when our communications gadgets are calling at us to do something.

Now, close your eyes, and do nothing. Yes, the smart-asses out there will say you’re doing something — you’re sitting there or laying there, closing your eyes. But we mean doing nothing in the sense that if someone were to call us up and ask what we’re doing, we say “Oh, nothing.” Don’t let them call you up, though. They are trying to distract you.

After 5-10 minutes of doing, nothing, you can quit, and go do something. But try to do this every day, or as much as possible, because it is not possible to become a master without practice.

First Day of Fall...

happyfall (199k image)

Fall has always been my favorite time of year. To me, fall seems as if it is a time of slowing down. The slowing of our frenzied life of summer, when the eve’s begin to get cool. It’s a time for opening the window while you’re sleeping and listening to the crickets instead of the hum of the heater or the air conditioner. It’s a time of balance, where the world stands still for a moment, the moment between growth and death. It’s a maturing time, when the soil seems to hold a special loam and the richness of the leaves and even the air that we breath has a musky yet snappy smell, that tells you “time has passed and the world is about to sleep.” Fall is a respite between the hot day’s of summer and the bone chilling day’s of winter, where everything seems to be in balance. It helps you prepare for the breakneck speed of the upcoming holiday season, while affording you the opportunity to drink that hot cup of spiced apple cider.

Meet Buddy...

buddy (43k image)

I wanted to introduce my new man! Buddy needed a home so we are giving him one - he is Buffy junior (except different sex!)
I wanted a dog that is trained, calm and likes to go for walks (and is house trained to go outside and inside) We found Buddy. His owner had to take a second job on top of going to school and she couldn't keep him anymore - we visited this weekend and I decided to take him and we would keep in touch with his owner - win win for both. He is so gentle and loving - no jumping, no barking just my buddy! I am in love. Anyway I wanted to introduce him...

World Of Good!

eBay has opened WorldofGood.com, a marketplace for ethically sourced and eco-friendly products. Shoppers can find goods in 15 product categories such as home decor, home and garden, art, jewelry, clothing and food. And they can search products by impact, such as whether a coffee is fair trade, whether a shampoo has been tested on animals, or whether a purse is constructed of recycled materials. Vendors must meet a core set of ethical and environmental standards — based on roughly 40 different attriburtes — through the company’s partnerships with organizations Co-op America and Aid to Artisans. The target market: “social change consumers” who wanted to shop in a more informed way.

Smile virus...

babygirls (140k image)
"Smiling is infectious, you catch it like the flu.
When someone smiled at me today, I started smiling, too.

I passed around the corner and someone saw my grin
when he smiled, I realized I'd passed it on to him!

I thought about that smile and then realized its worth,
a single smile, just like mine, could travel round the earth.

So, if you feel a smile begin, don't leave it undetected,
let's start an epidemic quick, and get the world infected!"

Looking for family quotes

I think I posted this a while back (a few years maybe), but I know a lot has changed and I am trying to make a list of all the things the kids have said over the years that are funny or memorable. I want to put something together with them. I went through the archives and found the orginal post: http://www.kdisanto.com/archives/00000340.html

I figured we could add to it and I thought maybe everyone could pitch in and help me out, especially since I still don't have any for Kate and Sarah. I also would like approximate ages for when they were said.

Recent additions are obviously:
- Kels and her 3 Junks and "Suck it Up Cupcake"

Ones from before:
- Delaney: her widgies, "Amerham Lincoln", "Cousin in the Yellow shirt", and running errands with her mom and thinking it meant she was going to see me and said "But where's Erin?"
- Kels: "I not evil, I a princess" and what kind of toys for Chirstmas... "Lello", "I like junk"
- Kam: wanting to go to his "own grass", "Boy this is a swell mess" (refere4nces Aunt Mim's house), "No hitin, no kicken and no spitten".
- Darian: "Quit your bitchin' Barbie" and the Holly Bibble (Holy Bible)
- Matty: "Sometimes I get into trouble without even trying", "You are driving me outsane".
- Nick: "Who Rang My Bell", the Katie Stick story, "I knew we should have a man with us."
- Beth: "I love you 2 Lots" and "Dot-Goes" (hotdogs), and the "plumby" fingers from doing dishes
- Erin: suzettes (Black-eyed Susans), beauty rocks, telling my dad to put his mustache back, and telling my parents not to stack the dishes b/c then I'd have to wash both sides, wanting to be a "leaf doctor"

Remembrance Flag...

us_911gba (16k image)
A flag of honor, a flag for reflection,
It stands for us all uniting this nation.
It will keep in our minds this tragic day,
Memories of such heroic acts shall not go away.

As we look on this flag of cloth and thread,
A field of bright red for the blood that was shed.
Not just on this day of lasting memories,
But for lives that were given throught history.

Two towers of strength that rose up so high,
Reaching for dreams, they stretched to the sky.
They lay now in ruin at the hands of hate,
Great symbols of our nation have met this fate.

Out nation's military housed in a fortress of steel;
We're reminded this day that war is so real.
Hitting the heart of our power and might,
Rise up America, this terror we must fight!

Stars that shine on a field of bright blue,
Remind us of heroes with hearts so true.
An ordinary day, it had started out to be,
Soon their lives would be given for you and me.

A circle is drawn to stand for our nation's unity,
A nation coming together through such tragedy.
A reminder is given for all of America to see,
That our freedom is never really free.

"God Bless America" is written in white,
Make this your prayer each and every night.
God is always with us, He knows our needs
Bring America back to God, should be our decree.

Much was given, many were lost on this day,
A man of terror tried to take our spirit away.
Do not let our new found spirit and unity fade,
As you look on this flag, remember this day ...

Martha Tip

a98874_gt05_foldsheet_l (18k image)I get daily tips in my e-mail from Martha Stewart, and some of them are really great! I have forwarded several to people in the family, but I don't have everyone's addresses so I thought I would post the good ones when I get them.

TIDY LINEN CLOSET
Slip bed-linen sets in pillow cases to avoid a disorderly mess when you try to retrieve them.

I thought this tip was GREAT! I know I can never fold the bottom sheet right and it ends up a mess, so this is a perfect way to hide that and keep everything together... neat and tidy! Go Martha! It's a good thing.

Remembering Matthew...

MLC4 (70k image)
At the rising sun and at its going down we remember them.
At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter we remember them.
At the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of spring we remember them.
At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of summer we remember them.
At the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of the autumn we remember them.
At the beginning of the year and when it ends we remember them.
As long as we live, they too will live, for they are now a part of us.
As we remember them.
When we are weary and in need of strength we remember them.
When we are lost and sick at heart we remember them.
When we have decisions that are difficult to make we remember them.
When we have joy we crave to share we remember them.
When we have achievements that are based on theirs we remember them.
For as long as we live, they too will live,For they are now a part of us,
as we remember them.

Stand up for cancer...

standup (143k image)

On September 5, over 50 of the most renowned personalities in TV, film, sports and music came together to make history. In an unprecedented television event, NBC, ABC, and CBS simultaneously devote 1 hour of commercial-free prime time to raise funds for the fight against cancer.

How can we give...Kris is leading a Team in a cancer walk called Carrier Cares.

carriercares (118k image)

"I am leading a cancer walk for a fellow colleague of mine that has been trying to beat breast cancer. We have a 5K walk on Sept 27 that me, Darian and Mattie are all doing as well as several Carrier people. I am the team captain (see I have a theory when things are in the toilet in other aspects of your life - job, lovelife, kids etc you do things for others and you feel better - yes you can drink a beer too but if you do both you feel awesome!) Digressing sorry! However I did want to pass along because you are special caring people in my life and if you wanted to participate or donate it’s a good cause - no pressure but wanted to make you aware.
I have attached the link for our team - its called Carrier Cares. Right now we have about 15 people walking which is great - anyone local who would like to do it can contact me and I can register you.
The link below will also allow you to donate online if you want.

We used to have such crazy dreams.
The kind of dreams that brought us together, made us not mere mortals, but a movement.
We used to dream we'd get to the moon.
And we were crazy enough, fanatical enough, relentless enough, to get there.
We dreamed we'd split the atom.
Make smallpox and polio whispers from forgotten history books.
Make technology infinite, individual.
Connect the world.
All the unbelievable and the impossible,
all the can't do and the never will, we overwhelmed them, we overpowered them, we conquered them.
They said no and we, well,
We said yes.
We stood up.
We stood up and changed the world.
Stand up when everybody else sits down
Stand up when it's easier to turn away
Stand up for everyone who can't rise anymore
When the answer seems impossible, stand up
When the dream is right within our reach, stand up
When the powerful refuse your call, stand up
The moment is now and the time has come to stand up.
One out of every two men
One out of every three women
will face these diseases we call cancer.
Our sisters, our brothers, our fathers, our mothers,
our husbands, our wives, our children.
Our very best friends and those we've yet to meet.
One person every minute, one person in a moment gets lost, gets stolen, gets taken away.
We are a tapestry of lives touched and brought together by a terrorist we can actually find. And in the time it's taken to read this, three more Americans have died.
Unforgivable.
This is where the end of cancer begins.
When together we become a force unmistakable.
A movement undeniable.
A light that cannot dim.
When we take our wild impossible dreams
And make them possible
Make them true
When together we rise as one
When we stand up
When we Stand Up To Cancer.

She was SO Excited for School. It is about 85 here today so the outfit Mom bought her was perfect- especially because she has gym class today and had to wear sneakers. I can't wait to hear all about her day! I asked her if she wanted me to take her blanket and art smock to school for her, so she wouldn't have such a full backpack and she said "No Mom, I don't need you to come to school today!" MS. Independent! She had her outfit from Nana and her backpack from Grammie! It's good to be loved and know that your grandparents want to share in this very special day with her! K
