Why playing bumper cars is not a good idea...

IMG_0187 (66k image)

Okay, so this is how my ride home turned out. I rear-ended someone. It was my fault, but it really SUCKED! This is my first accident. I was talking to my mom using my earpiece and looking for signs for my upcoming highway change. Well, recently I have found that my "night vision" is not so hot... by the time I looked up, I saw the car and it was too late. I slammed on the breaks and skid right into the back of them. Let me tell you... not a fun experience. My car is in need of major work and I need to call the insurance tomorrow and get it looked it. David thinks they will total it. I am so bummed... I'm such a dumb-ass, but thankful to be alive. Updates to come soon.

"I NOT EVIL! I'M A PRINCESS"

IMG_7016-fixed-600 (137k image)

Kay told us that over the weekend Kam pulled up Kels's pigtails into horns and told her she was evil. She turned back and said, "I not evil! I'm a princess!" Just thought it was a funny story and should be shared with those far away.

Crazy...

I official have joined the ranks of crazy. I went out shopping at 5 am (me up at that hour) the day after Thanksgiving. There were a couple gifts I wanted and had to have. Best Buy was a circus and I'll never do it again.

Linda's sister came home Wednesday night, had Thanksgiving with us and went home on Friday. She called today and she said she felt better. She will check back in 2 weeks to have her lungs exrayed to see if the "infection" went away- if not they will take a biopsy of the masses.

We have our house pretty well decorated and cleaned up. We worked on Christmas today and hope to have the box out this weekend. We are now getting ready for Linda's stay in the hospital- I'll be glad when this is over.

* Kameron helped Nana get her evergreens- he is being such a big help.
* Kelly has not been feeling well- pray she doesn't get sick again
* Nana has already begun cooking- Lala starts today.

Don't forget to give too...

hunger (33k image)

I delivered Thanksgiving boxes today- it is so great to see the faces of people who don't have much. I bought a basket for a family of a mom who left an abusive relationship- she is living with her parents and trying to get on her feet. The parents were so sweet. Makes your heart feel good! Hard to imagine we have hungry children in America- help if you can.

Newest project...

bottlecaps (125k image)

I got this idea from Ali Edwards- very easy and I think they are cute. They are also very easy to make. Cut out background paper (fits the new Fisker punch), glue in, place decoration in cap, cover in "glossy accents" and let dry overnight. Add magnet to back and you are done.

Joann...update

Well, she developed heart pain and shortness of breath last night- not getting out today, will wait and see about tomorrow. The best laid plans...we may eat turkey in the hospital.

Update: Right now we are looking at fluid on the lungs or cancer in the lungs ( we are going with fluid!). We should know more tonight. Either way it looks like she will be released tomorrow- she then will have to go see another doctor to deal with the other ( treat you- release you policy!) Hospitals suck!

Update #2: Tomorrow morning she will have a Cat Scan of her lungs- we will know more then.

Attitude is Everything...

images (4k image)

There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three hairs on her head."Well," she said, "I think I'll braid my hair today." So she did and she had a wonderful day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head.
"H-M-M," she said, "I think I'll part my hair down the middle today." So she did and she had a grand day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that she had only one hair on her head. "Well," she said, "today I'm going to wear my hair in a pony tail." So she did and she had a fun, fun day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn't a single hair on her head. "YEA!" she exclaimed, "I don't have to fix my hair today!"
Attitude is everything.
Have a Good Day!
Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
Live simply, Love generously, Care deeply, Speak kindly.......Leave the rest to God.

Update...

Long week...
Linda's sister did not respond to the medication. They have halted the next step because her blood work indicated trouble with her kidneys and diabetes. They will work to stabalize these issues and we will see what will happen after that. Ralph is hanging in there, he spends most of the day at the hospital and I bring him home around 8:30- he is in bed by 9. Linda is exhausted- both work and this situation are taking a toll- I know she will be excited when it is over.
Thanks for all the prayers- keep them coming.

Edited: They will be adjusting medication this weekend (she will stay in the hospital) they hope they can "zap" the heart at the beginning of the week. She was suppose to be out today but could be in all of next week (yuck for the holidays). Though it is taking awhile- we have had no adverse effects which is good- just stabalizing everything (caution is good). I hope this makes Linda's look like a piece of cake. Thanks for all the prayers.

Edit #2: They "zapped" the heart this am- went into rhythm on the first try. Will be released tomorrow and stay with us till Friday. One down-one to go!

Where have all the Catholics gone...

America’s Roman Catholic bishops are focusing on the many Catholics who misunderstand or disregard church teaching, instructing them on beliefs about homosexuality, marriage, contraception and Holy Communion. The prelates were also to take up documents on worthiness for receiving Communion and on the church’s widely ignored ban on artificial contraception. The bishops have proposed a new set of priorities for their streamlined conference through 2011, including an initiative supporting marriage, increasing the number of candidates for the priesthood and improving education for Catholics on church teaching.

So no talk of world peace or support for abused (many by priests) we instead talk of "natural birth control", homosexuality and marriage. I want someone to help me make it through crazy times- I want a church who believes in "Love one another- all others"- and they wonder why we have gone elsewhere?

Veterans Day- Nov. 11

medals (135k image)

This year there was a call for America's veterans to wear their military medals on Veterans Day, November 11, 2006. Wearing their medals will demonstrate the deep pride our veterans have in their military service and bring Veterans Day home to all American citizens.

These were Uncle Bernard's medals- A Purple Heart and a Silver Star.

The Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the President of the United States to any member of an Armed Force or any civilian national of the United States who, while serving under competent authority in any capacity with one of the U.S. Armed Services after 5 April 1917, has been wounded or killed, or who has died or may hereafter die after being wounded. The Purple Heart differs from all other decorations in that an individual is not "recommended" for the decoration; rather he or she is entitled upon being wounded or killed.

The Silver Star is awarded for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States not justifying a higher award. It may be awarded to any person who, while serving in any capacity with the U.S Armed Forces, distinguishes him or herself by extraordinary heroism.

There is a lot of differing opinions on the war but I think we can all say we are pround of our veterans and what they give to keep us free.

What we did today...

overriver (148k image)

We went to the dinner theather and saw, "Over the River and through the Woods"- parts were very funny but it was also sad (I cried). In a nutshell, the importance of "Famiglia".

You don't have to be Italian to wonder what we owe the people who love us, or to ask to what degree we, in the modern day, should arrange our lives to be close to our families. "Tenga familia," the grandfather says. "I have a family." This connotes for him Manhood, Responsibility, a Raison d'Etre. The younger generations choices in life underscore the shift in priorities, ambitious and unfettered by family responsibilities, the character follows a very different path than his grandparents. With this freedom comes loss, not of family, but of familial intimacy, which is not born of "quality time," but "quantity of time". And, as is so often shown, we seldom recognize what we have until we lose it.
As always ,the food was wonderful and the play was very well done.

Stressful times...

cobbgirls (156k image)

Well these two are both going in for procedures.
Joann has an Atrial Fibrillation and will go into the hospital on Tuesday for Antiarrhythmic medications. She will stay for 3 days to see if it adjusts her rhythm. Many complications can happen- stroke, heart will stop and the may have to place in a pacemaker. This is serious and her sister has not been in good health. Her husband Ralph will be staying with us while she is in the hospital.Linda is very worried- to add to that...
Linda has the same problem but they will do a Catheter Ablation- they thread a catheter through the blood vessel into the heart. They set the heart into an irregular beat and map where the "problem" is. They then send a radio frequency energy to the area and it destroys the problem cells so they can now longer send signals that cause irregular rhythms. Lower risks but still risk of heart attack. She goes in for her procedure December 1. I will take the day off and spend the night at the hospital with her. Please keep the family in your prayers.

Past is dead and gone

New toy...

imac (15k image)

Well I have wanted a Mac/apple for about a year, we looked at them this weekend and they had a nice sale so Christmas and my birthday came early! The hardest thing has been figuring out how to use it, the sales clerk said I need to "dummy down" and it is true. I struggled all yesterday trying to put a router on and trying to figure out how to burn a disk.

Last week it took 3 days to clear up a spyware issue, this issue happens much less on an apple so business on the windows and play (photos/music & internet) on the apple.
Anyone with knowledge, please feel free to share (new learning curve). The neat part of this computer (besides speed and simplicity) is all componets are in the monitor- it only has a keyboard and mouse. The screen is HD so movies are great and working on photos- wow! Nothing like a 24" screen. I think Beth needs to visit me in Kansas City and show me a few things (plus have a nice trip). Anyone can visit if you like...Erin I'm talking to you! Just sharing my new toy.

I AM THANKFUL FOR...

FOR THE WIFE WHO SAYS IT'S HOT DOGS TONIGHT,
BECAUSE SHE IS HOME WITH ME, AND NOT OUT WITH SOMEONE ELSE.

FOR THE HUSBAND WHO IS ON THE SOFA BEING A COUCH POTATO,
BECAUSE HE IS HOME WITH ME AND NOT OUT AT THE BARS.

FOR THE TEENAGER WHO IS COMPLAINING ABOUT DOING DISHES
BECAUSE IT MEANS SHE IS AT HOME, NOT ON THE STREETS.

FOR THE TAXES I PAY BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM EMPLOYED.

FOR THE MESS TO CLEAN AFTER A PARTY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN SURROUNDED BY FRIENDS.

FOR THE CLOTHES THAT FIT A LITTLE TOO SNUG
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE ENOUGH TO EAT.

FOR MY SHADOW THAT WATCHES ME WORK
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM OUT IN THE SUNSHINE

FOR A LAWN THAT NEEDS MOWING, WINDOWS THAT NEED CLEANING,
AND GUTTERS THAT NEED FIXING BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE A HOME.

FOR ALL THE COMPLAINING I HEAR ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT
BECAUSE IT MEANS WE HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH..

FOR THE PARKING SPOT I FIND AT THE FAR END OF THE PARKING LOT
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM CAPABLE OF WALKING AND I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH TRANSPORTATION .

FOR MY HUGE HEATING BILL BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM WARM.

FOR THE LADY BEHIND ME IN CHURCH WHO SINGS OFF KEY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I CAN HEAR.

FOR THE PILE OF LAUNDRY AND IRONING
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE CLOTHES TO WEAR.

FOR WEARINESS AND ACHING MUSCLES AT THE END OF THE DAY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN CAPABLE OF WORKING HARD.

FOR THE ALARM THAT GOES OFF IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM ALIVE.

AND FINALLY, FOR TOO MUCH E-MAIL BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE
FRIENDS WHO ARE THINKING OF ME.

I got this from my friend Michelle! I love e-mails like this that put everything in perspective for us!

Get a life...

babyhugs (164k image)

"A real life, not a manic pursuit of the next promotion, the bigger paycheck, the larger house.
Do you think you'd care so very much about those things if you blew an aneurysm one afternoon, or found a lump in your breast?
Get a life in which you notice the smell of salt water pushing itself on a breeze over Seaside Heights, a life in which you stop and watch how a red tailed hawk circles over the water gap or the way a baby scowls with concentration when she tries to pick up a Cheerio with her thumb and first finger.
Get a life in which you are not alone. Find people you love, and who love you. And remember that love is not leisure, it is work. Each time you look at your diploma, remember that you are still a student, still learning how to best treasure your connection to others. Pick up the phone. Send an e-mail. Write a letter. Kiss your Mom. Hug your Dad.
Get a life in which you are generous. Look around at the azaleas in the suburban neighborhood where you grew up; look at a full moon hanging silver in a black, black sky on a cold night. And realize that life is the best thing ever, and that you have no business taking it for granted.
Care so deeply about its goodness that you want to spread it around.
Take money you would have spent on beer and give it to charity. Work in a soup kitchen. Be a big brother or sister. All of you want to do well. But if you do not do good, too, then doing well will never be enough.
It is so easy to waste our lives: our days, our hours, our minutes. It is so easy to take for granted the color of the azaleas, the sheen of the limestone on Fifth Avenue, the color of our kid's eyes, the way the melody in a symphony rises and falls and disappears and rises again.
It is so easy to exist instead of live.
I learned to live many years ago. Something really, really bad happened to me, something that changed my life in ways that, if I had my druthers, it would never have been changed at all. And what I learned from it is what, today, seems to be the hardest lesson of all.
I learned to love the journey, not the destination. I learned that it is not a dress rehearsal, and that today is the only guarantee you get.
I learned to look at all the good in the world and to try to give some of it back because I believed in it completely and utterly. And I tried to do that, in part, by telling others what I had learned. By telling them this:
Consider the lilies of the field. Look at the fuzz on a baby's ear.
Read in the backyard with the sun on your face. Learn to be happy.
And think of life as a terminal illness because if you do you will live it with joy and passion as it ought to be lived.
Well, you can learn all those things, out there, if you get a real life, a full life, a professional life, yes, but another life, too, a life of love and laughs and a connection to other human beings.
Just keep your eyes and ears open. Here you could learn in the classroom. There the classroom is everywhere. The exam comes at the very end.
No man ever said on his deathbed "I wish I had spent more time at the office."
Happy November!
