Funny...

In Case you were wondering how Kim got it all done this year for Christmas and was able to have Christmas Eve at her house again...

3154849422_4af8c909f9 (119k image)

She hires child labor... lol! I couldn't resist because I thought the pic was too funny of Kels washing something when we made cookies. Sorry mom, but it fit. You did a wonderful job with the house and Christmas Eve was such a joy to have it at home again. Dad, you're clam chowder and homemade bread were a hit as always and I wish I still had some. Thanks to you both (and your child labor... tee hee).

Three years of growing and now...no more long hair

locksoflove (133k image)

Well- it's gone! Mailed out to Locks of Love and feels pretty good (I was over long hair- though I will miss it when I wear my ball cap). I am trying a new do- a little longer than I use to wear it- will see how it goes. I am not the only one who got a hair cut, Delaney decided to cut her own hair too. So Lu, this is in memory of you!

Kay, Bob, Delaney and Buffett made it home- yesterday was a relax day
Erin, David and Brenner made it home- they had to work Monday
Beth made it home- she had to work Monday
Lala made it home- slept 4 hours and 9.5 last night (I needed that!)
Kris left yesterday and should make it home today
It's quite in Clyde now!

Getting ready for Christmas...

disantochristmas (161k image)

* Erin, David and Beth all made the drive Sunday and made it in
* Lala made the flight out Monday with a couple hour delay in Cleveland- the Carroll's saved the day and got her home safely for the night
* Kevin Michael made it home Tuesday after a full day of snow and blowing- he was greeted by a very persistent young (Delaney) one to say Hi!
* Cookie baking didn't happen because of the weather and the fact that Kameron had his arm set Monday after having it stepped on during practice and breaking the bone.
* Mom and Kevin got the cards to the shut-ins delivered
* Karen got mom's new computer hooked up- she will be experiencing the full home page effects from now on.
* Many of us out-of towners and some in-towners got to experience lunch at the brickoven- YUM
* One more day till Christmas...

when you must walk through ...

thedoorandwaiting (322k image)

what i know for sure is that most of the time i know jack shit.
and that the things i thought were for sure, often change,
and that beliefs and fears and goals and
passions can switch on you as well.

what i know for sure is that this can be damn scary.
and to let go of what you know so well,
and abandon the comfort of familiarity takes deep strength.

and to starve your heart is to die a slow death.

what i know for sure is that if you ask for help, things will be
easier. and to pretend you are a superhero is exhausting.
relief will come in being honest, even if its the hard stuff.
and your true sisters, your true family, will help you up.... if you let them.

what i know for sure is that you can only think and talk
about things for so long and then the day comes when
you finally have to make a move. it doesnt have to be drastic,
but you do need to take that small step towards getting to
a better place.

what i know for sure if that this is your one life,
and you cannot get caught in midstream, mindlessly agreeing
to what is handed to you.
it is up to you now.
it is up to you to take hold of the wheel, and
to make this life of yours loaded to the rim
with soulfulness
and experiences that really fill you,
and to have people surrounding you
who truly care for your
heart....

and i know it takes alot of courage.
and i know it can feel terrifying.

but you are worth it.
your life was not meant to be lived this way.
now is your chance.

Delaney' celebrates with the Carroll's...

carrollgroup (135k image)

OK- the birthday weekend started out with Daddy coming to school to have lunch and bringing birthday cupcakes that had a crown and wand. She has worn the crown ALL weekend!
Then we had a sleepover with best bud, Anna (to which they were playing Santa and were in the box for a sleigh and using my reindeer decorations to complete the look and feel- this made me laugh out loud!).
Then we had special Santa Claus pancakesfor breakfast.
Then we went to Grammie's for a birthday party with the Carroll's and her cousins. Then she blew out her candles, talk to Ali on the phone from college (who is studying for finals this week). Then opened some very cool presents and then Uncle Phil always makes a home-made card that is very funny and inside he put in lots of $1 bills- she thinks she is rolling in the dough!

Then we went to the cemetery to put up wreaths (that were delayed due to bad weather and trips to Clyde). Then Mom came home to do a couple hours of work, Dad took her bowling- and she bowled an 88! Now we are having every kids favorite dinner- McDonald's and watching a movie for our movie night.

WHAT A GREAT DAY! Mom and Dad feel like they have as much reason to celebrate as Delaney- truly the best day of our lives! Kay

Why?

Sign-RealityCheck (38k image)

What I want to know is if you have something and someone else wants it- why do they feel they have the right to just take it? The son of the gentleman JoAnn is dating was mugged and beat up for his wallet. The justice here- while beating him, they lost their keys and when they came back to get them- they were arrested. I do truly believe that what goes around-comes around!

OK- time for a change- my hair is 10 inches long, leaving my hair above my shoulder- do I go midway, do I go short...I'm making a change for 50. After three years of growing, I'm donating to Locks of Love in memory of Lu.
Edited:I have an appointment for Saturday- so I'll be coming home with a new cut. Will look something like the picture below (length- my hair is too straight to have much body! Think I need to go slow- real short seems too drastic.)

Let's celebrate...

toast (140k image)

Time of Celebration
For those of us who celebrate Christmas this season is really about celebrating Christ, as well as all that he stands for. For others, there are other reasons for celebrating, religious or not. I think this act of celebration is important, because it helps us to remember what’s important, and brings joy into our lives. It spices up life, and who doesn’t need a little merry-making in their life? I love the traditions that come along with this season. Yours may be different, of course, but these traditions become important, no matter how small.

A Time for Giving
Receiving gifts is always fun, of course, as is giving lots of gifts. But this season of giving doesn’t have to be about buying in order to give. You can make things, for example … or better yet, you can give in other ways:

* Volunteer for charity. We do this with our kids, from Salvation Army bell ringing (lots of fun because you sing carols and give people candy) to cooking and serving food for the homeless. It teaches the kids a lot about giving, and warms your heart to help others.
* Do something nice for people you love. Wash their car, do chores or errands for them, babysit so they can go on a date, cook them their favorite dish or treat, help them with a project.
* If you have a lot of money to burn (as it seems with all the spending we do!), give it to someone who needs it more. Donate to a good cause.

What’s consumerism? Basically, equating happiness with material goods. Buying in order to bring happiness and solve problems. Spending more and more — and earning more and more to support the spending — in order to realize the dreams given to us by advertising and a consumerist society.
It’s good for the economy but bad for the individual. We end up in an endless cycle of spending and debt and working more and more, and end up with lives filled with goods but empty of meaning and happiness.

So what’s the solution? Well the simple solution is to stop spending, to find other ways to give and to celebrate. But often that requires some changing of deeply-held traditions, and some uncomfortable discussions among families and friends. It means agreeing to do things differently, and perhaps being seen as a weirdo for doing so. It can be done. We just need to realize that this season is not about buying stuff. It’s about celebrating, giving, spending time with family, reflecting, and gratitude.

Peanut Butter Rudolph Reindeer

These were just too cute not to share. I got these in my e-mail from Ladies Home Journal. You can probably use any peanut butter recipe you want, but I included theirs just in case. Enjoy! ss_R109756 (37k image)

Ingredients:

* 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
* 3/4 cup peanut butter
* 1/3 cup granulated sugar
* 1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
* 1 large egg
* 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
* 1- 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 48 large red M&M candies
* 96 mini semisweet chocolate chips
* Pretzels, broken into 96 1-inch pieces

Directions:

1. Heat oven to 375 degree F and place rack in center. Grease two baking sheets. In a large mixer bowl beat together butter, peanut butter and sugars on medium speed until light, about 2 minutes. Add egg and extract; beat until combined. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt until a dough forms. Roll into 1-inch balls and place 1 inch apart on prepared sheets.

2. Bake, one sheet at a time, until just set and bottoms are golden, 8 to 10 minutes. For each cookie, immediately place 1 M&M in center for nose, 2 chocolate chips for eyes and 2 pretzel pieces on top for antlers. Transfer cookies on sheets to a wire rack and let cool completely. (Can be made ahead. Store in an airtight container at room temperature, in single layers separated by waxed paper, up to 2 days.)

Want to save the world...

plastc050208_15074a (176k image)

quote1_1_2 (21k image)

There are a lot of people, that have a lot of answers. Everyone things their answer is right. We need cleaner, natural sources for energy. We need biodegradable products that if dumped, will simply disintegrate within a few weeks. As far as the financial crisis goes, that’s a little trickier. Some people say we need more regulation. Others say we need more jobs. Others still say the cost of living is increasing too fast for our incomes to keep up.

Everyone has answers.

The problem is, none of these answers address the fundamental problem:

We don’t need to do anything about it.

There’s a fundamental rule in physics that says, energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be transferred. I’m sure you’re familiar with this, we all learned it in school. And the same rule applies to everything in life, but I guess we didn’t listen very well.

See, the problem we’re in this big mess is really simple. It may seem like there’s so much we need to do, to make things right. And that’s the problem. We don’t need to do more. We don’t need to make more of an effort. We need to do less.

Consuming has caused the majority of our financial and environmental problems. We take more than we give. We know that we’ll need to repay our debt sooner or later, but we put it off. Interest accrues, financially and ecologically. It’s not until the problem gets so huge — and we can’t ignore it anymore — that we take action.

Let’s take a look at some of the ways we can use the power of less to restore balance. Click link...

World AIDS Day...

52413851sz7 (20k image)

1 December 2008 marks the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day. In 1988, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the first World AIDS Day in an effort to raise public awareness about HIV/AIDS issues, including the need for support and understanding for people living with HIV/AIDS. The day is also an opportunity to highlight the need for continued development of education and prevention initiatives.

Over the past 20 years, World AIDS Day has been established as one of the world’s most successful commemorative days. It is now recognised and observed by millions of people in more than 190 countries around the globe.

The red ribbon is a simple way in which we can declare our support for those living with or affected by HIV/AIDS. It is a symbol of the memory of those who have died and support for those who continue to live with HIV/AIDS.

Awareness and prevention go hand in hand. Help prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS by making the red ribbon visible and get people talking about HIV/AIDS.
